The Shippen is a cosy but very spacious detached barn conversion in a peaceful rural location near Hartland, North Devon within easy reach of Hartland Quay, and other local beaches. The cottage is down a private lane away from the main road, within the grounds of our smallholding. There are 2 spacious bedrooms, one on the ground floor and one upstairs. There is a fifth bed suitable for a child or teenager in the upstairs lobby. Each bedroom has its own bathroom. There is a large open plan living/dining room with a wood burner, and a conservatory which leads out on to the lawn and patio, and has views over fields and through woodland. The cottage is ideal for stays at any time of year. There is an extensive library of books and DVDs.
1 well behaved dog allowed but please note the garden is not enclosed.
SHORT BREAKS AVAILABLE ; DISCOUNT FOR TWO WEEK STAY (please enquire).
Access: we can put a ramp on the ground floor to make the whole floor accessible to wheelchairs or to anyone who cannot manage steps; please check with us first as some larger wheelchairs won't fit through the internal doors.
High season - we generally only accept bookings of 6 days or more.
If you would like to book we will send out a booking form for you to complete.
Housing Crisis in the South West:
The Shippen only has planning consent as holiday accommodation so by booking it you are not preventing a local family from having a home to rent.

Perfect

Perfect Location. Perfect home. Perfect hosts The Shippen is a wonderful place to stay. The house is brilliantly equipped, always warm, and so gloriously peaceful The biggest disturbance is the bird song. Idyllic. Incredibly close to the breathtaking North Devon coastal path. Why has it taken us 60 years to discover this absolute gem. No crowds and extraordinary beauty. And our faithful Labrador loved it too

Beautiful and peaceful cottage in a lovely Devon spot. We stayed in winter and loved the log burner. Penny is a great host and she made us feel very welcome. Thank you for a wonderful stay.

Homely and spacious

Superb homely, spacious cottage. Peace & Tranquility guaranteed. Loved the log burner. Good quality free WiFi. Short drive or 1hr 15 min walk to the coastline and Hartland Quay. Exceptional home from home to which we would have no hesitation in returning. 5 stars well deserved.

Had a great stay here with our active young kids. Cottage is spacious, comfortable and well equipped. Lovely spot in Devon if you are looking for a quiet break and spectacular sea views. Penny is a great host - really helpful and friendly. A place we would like to return to!

What a beautiful cottage

By Hayley on 30-Jul-2021

What a beautiful cottage. Photos really don’t do it justice. Got everything you could possibly need and in a beautiful location. The cottage is just a short drive from the stunning Hartland Quay. Make sure you put on your walking shoes and go for a walk on the coastal path. Hard work but worth it for the amazing views. I would definately recommend The Shippen to anybody.

Spent a wonderful week

By Edmund on 15-Jul-2021

Spent a wonderful week at this spacious, clean and well appointed property. It was ideally positioned within easy reach of both the Hartland coast and the main trunk road. Penny was a great host and we were very thankful for her advice on exploring the area. Would definitely want to stay again in the future!
