Description

Bridge View is a characterful old stone house in the centre of the picturesque village of Gunnerside, Swaledale in the Yorkshire Dales National Park. Close by flows the bubbling beck passing under the bridge to join the river Swale. The old house has been adapted over hundreds of years being stables, shop and home to local folk. Some of the interior quirky nooks and crannies and uneven stone walls remain from long ago. The large windows provide good light and views of the village and surrounding hills. From the front door you can access miles of valley, riverside and moorland walks, bicycle routes in all directions without needing to use your car.

Bridge View is ideally situated for walkers, hikers, cyclists, mountain bikers, birdwatchers, photographers and families who want to explore the beautiful Dales countryside and for those interested in the lead mining and farming heritage. The Pennine Way, Coast to Coast route and the Swale Trail are nearby. Many of the moorland paths are traditional miner's routes to work and lead past now abandoned lead mine workings. Higher above the village it is barren, rugged and wild with peat moorland where the hardy Swaledale sheep roam. In contrast the gentle valley and riverside are host to lush pastures. Everywhere you experience the rich heritage of agricultural and mining settlements with the field barns, Churches, Chapels, pubs, village halls, Literary institutes etc .

fantastic cottage in beautiful village

By Rose Bradbury on 27-Sep-2024

This was our 3rd stay in this beautiful cottage. The cottage has everything you need for a home from home break. It is clean and very very comfortable. The hosts Jan and Jeremy are fantastic and very informative . The welcome basket is a wonderful treat just in case you forget any necessaries . I cannot emphasise how lovely the cottage is . The location is great and there is parking outside which is always a bonus when going anywhere. There are loads of lovely walks on the doorstep and I must mention the local pub The Kings Arms. The food in there is lovely and the locals very welcoming.

Beautiful cottage

The cottage was beautiful, spotless and cozy. Situated in a lovely village with a great food pub. Lovely goodies left by the owners. A great place to stay in the Dales.

Lovely Dales setting

A beautiful cottage in the heart of a small village. Walks in all directions from the front door. Local pub (57 steps away) did great meals. Would thoroughly recommend for a peaceful stay.

Lovely cottage in Gunnerside

My partner and I enjoyed our stay at Bridge View in the centre of Gunnerside. Jan and Jeremy communicated clearly beforehand and when we got there the cottage was clean and well appointed . They left us some gifts which was a nice touch.

Extremely well equipped and comfortable cottage

Great cottage in the middle of a lovely village, Gunnerside. Spacious and everything you could want whilst away. Great walks from the door. Pub across the road. And great weather for us!!!

A perfect Swaledale retreat.

Back in the US and missing Swaledale desperately, especially Gunnerside and Bridge View. We arrived to discover a delicious basket of goodies waiting for us on the kitchen table; Jan and Jeremy were generous and responsive hosts. Bridge View is comfortable, homey, and wonderfully appointed. All the appliances work well and are easy to use. The bedrooms are spacious and perfect for a good night’s sleep. The bathrooms are large and efficient. The living room is relaxing and was a brilliant place to watch the European Football Championship! Tea on the patio was icing on the cake. Furthermore, its location is ideal for myriad walks or an easy drive or bus ride to other villages. Bridge View’s proximity to the King’s Head, a community owned pub, makes one’s visit complete. We hope to be back!
