Description

Surrounded by attractive gardens with red squirrels and many species of birds Anwoth Old Schoolhouse is located in the picturesque parish of Anwoth opposite the ruin of Anwoth Old Kirk. Both the School and Kirk featured in the infamous cult film 'The Wickerman'.

Lying at the heart of the Fleet Valley, a designated area of outstanding natural beauty and close to the sea, Anwoth Old Schoolhouse is a comfortable characterful cottage set amidst beautiful and peaceful surroundings rich in fauna and flora. There are many attractive walks straight from the doorstep. The cottage is situated at the foot of an old military road which winds its way over open moorland with beautiful sea views. A few yards down the Anwoth lane leads to a lovely wood carpeted in bluebells in Spring together with many other woodland plants and is home to many species of birds, badgers, deer and red squirrels.

The quaint wee toon of Gatehouse of Fleet with its good selection of shops and good eating out places in the pubs and cafes is just a one and a half mile walk via a peaceful scenic lane or a more adventurous small climb over Trusty’s Hill with its Pictish stone carvings and wonderful views of hills and coast from the monument dedicated to Samuel Rutherford the first minister at Anwoth Old Kirk.

It is just a couple of miles to the sea and quiet sandy beaches with many more beaches in just a few more miles.
