Description
A converted water mill dating back to the 17th century and set in its very own tidal creek on the banks of the River Fowey, The Old Sawmills is a haven of tranquility.
Nestled in 30-acres of woodland, the location alone is stunningly beautiful. The property consists of the 7-bedroom, 5-bathroom mill house, which sleeps 16 and a separate 2-bedroom lodge, set within its own gated, woodland garden. These two properties are available together or separately if required. Nearly all the rooms have stunning views over the water.
Whilst staying at the Old Sawmills you have the feeling of being on your own island, as access to the Sawmills is by boat.... yet you can walk out any time, along the scenic footpath of the Saints Way.
The site has seen a wealth of history from medieval merchants to Wind in the Willows, wartime occupation by US Army D-Day troops, to world famous recording studio. Located between the charming village of Golant and the picturesque town of Fowey, it’s both an ideal base for visiting many of the sights of Cornwall and a perfect setting for simply relaxing and watching the tide lap in. Good fishing can be had from the outer quay and there are many walks that can be joined from the grounds.
Boats may be hired from the picturesque historic port of Fowey, which has a variety of shops, pubs and restaurants. The village of Golant boasts the Fisherman's Arms pub which serves good food.
Walking into the village of Golant takes approximately 20 minutes, or boating takes just 5 minutes. Fowey is 10 minutes away by boat, or a 40-minute walk.
The Old Sawmills is a dog’s paradise too, and well behaved animals are welcome at a charge of £50 per week.
We have parking in Golant for 5 vehicles comfortably, or an absolute maximum of 6. Guests are collected from the village by boat, so transportation of luggage is not an issue.
There are 2 cots and 2 highchairs available.
There is a large terrace area with barbecue and also a balcony with table/chairs with beautiful views over the creek and also the river beyond.
The televisions in both properties are "Smart" tv's, enabling guests to access Netflix and other streaming mediums.
Larger supermarkets can be found at St Austell and Bodmin, which are approximately 20 minutes away.
Please do call directly if you are interested in booking as emails are not always received through this site.
