Description

This is the first in our row of three 19th century fishermen’s cottages on the quayside in one of Pembrokeshire’s jewels – Lower Town, Fishguard. It has been sensitively and imaginatively refurbished and provides the most perfect spot for a happy, comfy family holiday or a complete retreat from a busy city life. Full of character and interest, the cottage is a bit like a Tardis, much bigger on the inside than it looks from the outside!

The sitting room is furnished with two sofas and an easy chair, an unusual cupboard of considerable interest, bookshelves with an eclectic collection of reading matter, Free Sat TV and DVD Player and a wood burning stove. The kitchen/dining room has a huge “chimney fawr” with wood burning stove and free WiFi. The dining table seats 8+ and another bookcase is full of yet more books, games and jigsaws for those occasional wet days! The kitchen is full fitted and equipped with dishwasher, larder fridge, freezer, microwave and a dual fuel cooker (double electric oven and five ring gas hob). There is ample glassware, crockery, cutlery and kitchenware to feed twelve people. At the back of the cottage is a small wet room with loo, shower and washbasin and a large utility room with washing machine, an extra fridge/freezer, big sink and the central heating boiler and controls. The small yard outside catches the morning sun, wonderful for those summer breakfast times. It’s also an ideal storage spot for kayaks and small dinghies. Upstairs there are three bedrooms and a big bathroom, with toilet, bath, washbasin, a large shower and an excellent airing cupboard. All bedrooms have harbour views. The main bedroom has a double bed, masses of storage space, a walk in wardrobe and a wash basin . The middle bedroom above the front door is tiny but has a three foot single bed. The third bedroom has twin beds, (which can be put together as a super-king with advanced notice!) and a large chest of drawers.

The main attraction for children coming to these cottages is the opportunity to spend hours catching crabs on the slipway just outside. Unofficial competitions are run within families and with neighbours, for who can catch the biggest crab or the largest number, as well as more official events run by local organisations on high days and holidays. Grown ups make do with putting the garden chairs out at the front on the quay, opening a bottle of wine and watching the world go by. With the famous Pembrokeshire Coastal Path a minute from the cottage, there is so much to do within walking distance, not to mention further afield, that most people have to come back again to try something new next time!

As with all our cottages, bed linen is provided, as are tea towels and hand towels. We do not supply bath or beach towels. Camp cot, high chair and stair gates available on request. Cot linen not provided. Sticks, firelighters and a basket of logs will be available on your arrival.

Cars can be parked on the quay directly outside the cottage, but be careful to position yours between the windows, so none of the views are obscured.
