A wonderful house and just perfect for our needs. Memorable views, spotlessly clean and all we needed for a great holiday. Lots of places to see and do nearby and Valerie was such a helpful and knowledgable host. Highly recommended.
Villa de Cascade is a hidden gem in the heart of the Languedoc and we cannot recommend a stay here highly enough. Our host, Valerie was very helpful in the run up to our trip and answered any questions we had quickly and had some great suggestions for vineyards to visit and where to eat. The scenery on the drive up to the house is stunning with a ruined church on the skyline across the cascade. The house is perched on top of a hill with very private gardens with magnificent uninterrupted views of the surrounding mountains. The house benefits from being part of a small group of traditional houses in a private Domaine, yet with easy access to the village via a leisurely 5 minute walk by foot down the hill to the bakery, shops and pharmacy. The Villa is very stylish with traditional French decor throughout. The fit out is of a very high standard and the house was spotless with gorgeous linen and the fluffiest towels. The bedrooms are generous doubles with very comfy beds and all with their own en-suite and beautifully decorated. The terrace has a covered veranda perfect for reading in the shade and we had every meal outside here. The swimming pool is perfect for a cooling afternoon dip and a splash around. We arrived to find a bottle of local wine from Castelmaure from the Corbieres and a lovely welcome note. Every little thing has been considered from Smart TV to a docking station for our music and as someone who loved to cook we had everything we needed, even some great cookbooks left out for us. Valerie gave us some great suggestions for visiting in the area and we had a stunning lunch in the restaurant in the Abbaye de FontFroide and then a stroll through the Abbaye and gardens followed by a wine tasting. We visited Embres et Castelmaure winery, did a honey tasting over the hill and visited Narbonne, a beautiful town with great boutique shops, roman road ruins, cathedral and classic French cafes and restaurants. The African reserve in Sigean is a great day out too. For foodies, the 3 star Michelin restaurant just over the hill is out of this world. The scenery in the area is magnificent with great views and vineyards curling up the hill behind the house and we loved exploring the area by foot and car. We visited in mid-September and temperatures were mid to high 20s and the harvest was in full swing. This was our first time in the Languedoc and it certainly won’t be the last. We will definitely be back to Villa de Cascade, our hidden gem in the Languedoc.
Where can I begin... From the ease of booking with the owner to her real understanding with all our requirements this is a lovely person to deal with. The house was immaculate and very well situated and laid out. We liked the open plan kitchen/dining/sitting area which opened out onto the pool and patio. The beds were very comfortable as were the pillows. Something so rare in France and Italy these days we tend to take our own. Not needed here. The garden was a joy, and so enjoyed sitting in the little "private area" with the view across the valley. The house was certainly very much home from home. The local super market stocked everything we needed and I enjoyed walking down to the bakers every morning for our bread and croissant. A brilliant holiday and looking forward to re-visiting.
What a lovely week we had. Reminded us of being in Provence, but without the crowds and inflated prices, and nearer the sea! AMAZING views from the villa terrace - absolutely loved it. Despite being in a small ''courtyard'' of other villas, was very private and quiet. Fantastic wine and vineyards, lovely cycle rides, plenty of restaurants of all price brackets, near the midi canal and Carcassonne, beautiful walks and castles to visit, great coastline and lagoons. The villa itself was very well equipped and tastefully furnished, and for the keen chef, had all the implements and dishes you could ever need! Three en-suite double bedrooms all tastefully furnished and stacks of wardrobe space. Utility room with extra fridge freezer and washing machine. Lovely covered outside dining area and BBQ. Beautifully kept garden, with loads of lavender.Good WiFi /TV/sky for when you''ve had enough of the sun (and very useful if staying during Wimbledon week!!) Highly recommended!
