Simply outstanding

By Rowena on 01-Aug-2024

I've read in reviews here that the Watermill is even better than it looks on the website, and having just returned from one of the most relaxing weeks of our lives, we can 100% confirm that. There is so much space, inside and out, and it's all absolutely beautiful. We had plans to see things in the surrounding area, but a week wasn't long enough to simply soak up the peace and beauty - we rarely left the mill! Favourite things to do - walk through the beautiful flora in the cool of the morning to fetch baguettes from the bread vending machine in the village (I kid you not), have a morning cuppa or lunch at the table under the vines, sit reading in the 'secret garden' (as we called it), eat supper out by the bread oven, nominate a family member to distract the biggest and greediest (but also super-friendly and cute) goat so the other goats, and the ducks and chickens, can all have something to eat at feeding time, swim in the pool, of course (which is also bigger than it looks in the photos) ... I could go on and on. Everywhere you go you are serenaded by babbling brooks and surrounded by the most beautiful gardens. Please read all the other reviews - I agree with every word. We will definitely be coming back, hopefully next year, and for longer. Thank you so much, Jason and Marie-Laure, you are the most perfect hosts.

A lovely relaxing holiday

By Lydia,Neil,Nicole & Eloise on 21-Jul-2024

A lovely relaxing holiday had at the mill by our family of 4.Highlights were feeding the goats and ducks, table tennis and of course the fantastic pool area ! Our recommendations for things to do nearby are the « Vallée Des Singes (Monkey Valley)-What an amazing day we had with free range monkeys ! Green Venice boat trip was also brilliant. We opted for a manned boat ride so we didn’t have to row and our young guide, Pierre spoke fantastic English and told us all about the canals and wildlife as well as a fire demonstration from the methane gas in the canal ! La Rochelle was also well worth a visit , a lovely place to wander and the German bunker in the town was incredible and well worth a visit , you would never know it was there ! We were delighted to have seen « Bob » the resident trout swimming through the kitchen one morning ! Amazing ! Many Thanks to Jason & Marie -Laure Lydia,Neil

Fabulous Week at the Mill

By Peter & Carla on 20-Jul-2024

July 2024 We have had a fabulous weak at the moulin . Made extra special by the amazing warm welcome from Jason and Marie-Laure . We were invited to watch the England v Spain Euro final with Jason, Marie-Laure and Choe . Watching the match in their home with beer was really special ! Thank you so much guys , shame about the result :-( The welcome pack was really a very nice touch , the best we have ever had , with wine. lovely fresh eggs, vegetables and fruit . The property and surroundings are stunning and hugely undersold online. From the moment we drove into the property we were delighted with our choice and certainly the place has delivered above our expectations. We are honestly amazed at the attention to detail not only in the property but also the wonderful gardens . The outside BBQ bread oven area was used several nights , the bird song and water accompanied some great local produce cooked over coals. Feeding the very friendly goats and chickens was great fun. I fished the mill stream at the bottom of the garden and was rewarded with a fabulous Chubb. I was thrilled when 4 kingfisher’s decided to frolic around the stream for a few minutes . We visited Coulon and had a boat trip along the canals , well worth a trip .Mainly we stayed around the Moulin , reading, dipping in and out of the pool, very relaxing. Melle has some really nice cool walks along the Arboretum with lots of rare trees many of them displaying dates of planting back to 1750´s. Thé Friday market was nice but a definite for us was having dinner at the « Secret Garden « excellent food and great value . So a really relaxing week made so very special by the warm welcome we received. Jason we are amazed at the effort you and Marie-Laure have put into this very special place. Thank you for showing us the pictures and sharing your fabulous journey, very inspiring ! We wish you all the best for the future , Dood (dog) was also very happy here ! We have visited a lot of properties in France and the Moulin tops the lot ! Your story is fabulous and is shown in every corner of the moulin. A river in the kitchen with a trout swimming up and down ! That’s a first ! Thanks once again Peter, Carla and Dood xx

It’s got to be seen to be believed

By R.Hunnybun on 03-Nov-2022

Shamefully we did very little. We had great plans to explore this beautiful region of France, but the tranquil paradise was so enthralling we just didn’t want to leave it. The tropical gardens, feeding the goats, ducks, hens (and feeding the fish in the Mill Race), playing with the security cat, and of course the beautiful pool. You are spoilt for choice of where to relax, sun or shade, and inside the luxurious lounge is so comfy with a huge TV. However, we very rarely used it, choosing to be outside from dawn to dusk. No review can capsule the beauty of the place, and the lavish welcoming basket plus the fresh produce that arrived on our doorstep mid week was more than an added bonus. Jason and Marie-Laurie are the perfect hosts with the right balance of being available but also unobtrusive and so very laid back and helpful (even to the point of providing last minute oil for the car which would have broken down on drive back without it!) The bed was super comfy, the bath luxurious, everywhere so tastefully furnished. We couldn’t fault a thing. We have stayed in so many rentals over the years I can can honestly say this far surpasses anywhere else. But hey don’t take my word for it…. See it for yourself. We will definitely be back, and next time perhaps we will be a little more adventurous. Thank you so much to you both for such a wonderful week. The place and yourselves are awesome. As Alison said… you have nailed it! Read less Visited August 2022

The most perfect place to stay

By D.Hoskins on 22-May-2022

The warmest welcome from great hosts and it just gets better from there. We had the most wonderful welcome basket which was very thoughtful and some stunning flowers. It’s been our third stay in this top quality property and each time the hosts have done more work and made it even better. The mill is steeped in history but has been converted so that is is super comfortable and done to the highest quality. They’ve really thought of everything, the garden is fully landscaped with a pool and is truly delightful. There’s a massive family room which is tastefully appointed and wonderful to relax in. There are goats, ducks and chickens in a contained area so you can mix with them if you love animals or keep your distance if you’re not sure. There are books and magazines for you to borrow, games to play, or just sit and enjoy the peace and quiet. Lots of places to visit locally and Jason and Marie-Laure are happy to help with suggestions. The house is spotlessly clean and the grounds are very well maintained, it’s lovely to wander round them and appreciate everything that has been done. We’ve only just returned home and are already planning our next trip. Read less Visited May 2022

Wow !

By Kev on 26-Jul-2020

The first wow is when you arrive and drive through the beautifully landscaped gardens to the property. The wows don't stop there, this beautiful old building has been lovingly renovated while still retaining many original features including exposed beams, mill stones, machinery and the mill race running through the kitchen (which, along with the thick stone walls, helps to keep the property nice and cool. On arrival the kitchen was well stocked with fresh vegetables, eggs and the best welcome hamper we have ever seen! There is also a good stock of very reasonably priced wine so you never run out! We loved the original features, the mill race, the fresh flowers in the lounge, the heated pool, the old bread oven, the bbq, the table tennis, the streams, the sound of running water, the woodland walk, the goats, the hammock, the mill pond, the sunshine.......... there is so much about this place it is difficult to know where to begin (and end). The owners Jason and Marie-Laure are lovely and helpful (thanks for arranging the vets appointment) and they manage to be available and discreet at the same time. If you are looking for a peaceful break in rural France with plenty of places to visit, you can't go far wrong with this!
