Description

Souters is a small converted barn and is suitable for couples. It has a large sitting room with a high vaulted ceiling, a well equipped open plan kitchen, separate bedroom with king size bed and a shower room with power shower. It is all on one level inside but has sloping paths and steps outside. It has underfloor heating throughout and also a stylish modern woodburner which makes for very cosy evenings in the colder months. Outside there are two terraces to be enjoyed during the summer and a large grassed area for play or relaxation. There is also a wood fired pizza oven. Fresh herbs can be found in the garden borders which guests are welcome to use. .

Souters Holiday Cottage is found in the grounds of Valley Farm Cottage, home to the owners. It is just off the track leading to their smallholding and fields, which stretch as far as the river Brett, a tributary of the River Stour. The smallholding is in the process of being regenerated for wildlife habitat. It is a great spot for bird watching and present through various times of the year are nightingales, kingfishers, hobbies, woodpeckers, owls, buzzards, sparrow hawks and numbers of other woodland, river and garden birds. There is wildlife in abundance too including deer, foxes, badgers, slow worms and grass snakes, stoats and a great number of rabbits . Guests are welcome to follow the path through the coppiced chestnut woods and walk down to the river meadows.

We happily accept up to 2 well behaved dogs (we ask that dogs are not allowed on furniture or beds). Please note that the garden immediately surrounding Souters is not securely fenced; however there is a large field adjacent which is fenced and in which we encourage guests to walk their dogs.

Responsible smoking permitted OUTSIDE only.

A lovely quiet cottage a beautiful setting

By Cathy T on 05-Jul-2024

We really enjoyed our stay at Souters, it is very well placed for visiting many of Suffolk and Essex's well known beautiful villages. The cottage has been sensitively converted and has everything that's needed for a very comfortable and stylish stay. The only thing that would have improved it would have been an area of enclosed garden so that dogs may pop outside without the fear of them 'exploring' the local wildlife! We had a very warm welcome from the owners and good communication throughout.

Thank you for your review and so glad that you enjoyed your time here. There is a fenced field just across the track from the cottage which we encourage guests with dogs to use. It was a conscious decision not to enclose any of the garden area immediately around Souters so that it didn't become a dog toilet area. That way it can be enjoyed by guests who don't bring dogs too.

Relax and refresh

By J & MG on 08-Sep-2023

This is our 4th stay at Souters which says it all really! It's not just the peaceful and relaxing setting, or the comfort of the wonderful barn. It's not just the thoughtful touches that Cath and Nick include which mean you want for nothing while you stay. It's not just the feeling of having breakfast in the woods while you sit at the table in your own garden, or the stroll down the winding path between the trees to the river. It's not just the many pretty walks from the door or within a very short drive away. The whole package leaves you feeling relaxed, stress free and re-energised. We will be back!

Perfect relaxing getaway We loved our weekend stay - a tranquil location perfect to unwind. A lovely lemon drizzle cake on arrival was an unexpected surprise! Lots of wildlife and lovely walks with our dog. Highly recommended.

Beautiful Peaceful Retreat

By Debbie F on 26-Sep-2022

Beautiful cottage set in a wonderful and peaceful location. Caths'''' directions were spot on and we found it easily. The cottage was so lovely clean and homely, we were met by Cath and shown around, our dog loved the woods walk and don to the river, stunning location and we also had gorgeous weather! There are somer lovely pubs locally too which are dog friendly which Cath told ud about. There was even a yummy banana and chocolate chip cake on our arrival at the cottage. We will definitely be back!
