Description

This secluded, semi-detached barn conversion adjoins the owner's 17th century home only one mile from Clunton, in the heart of Shropshire's beautiful Clun Valley. Set in a lovely hidden valley, off the beaten track, in a peaceful, rural location in the Shropshire Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. This superb barn is surrounded by a mix of farmland, hills and glorious woodlands and is set in an area comprising of approximately two acres. It is accessed via its own private entrance at the end of a farm track (please note the farm track is bumpy and may not be suitable for very low vehicles) there are no other properties nearby. King Grove offers a retreat away from the hustle and bustle of life, great for city escapists and those wanting to enjoy the tranquil beauty and nature of the English countryside. King Grove enjoys dark skies with no light pollution, ideal for stargazers. Evenings are filled with the sounds of nature, such as owls, foxes, deer and badgers. Birdlife is abundant and the birdsong in spring is astounding.
The barn retains some of its original character, as well as providing quality, contemporary accommodation throughout. It has a very well equipped modern kitchen with dining table, a spacious, comfortable and tasteful lounge with wood burner. Two good sized double bedrooms and a modern shower room with large shower. The south-facing lawned garden at the front of the property is shared with the owners, it also offers the exclusive use of a sunken, sunny patio which is accessed via steps. There are other seating areas (again accessed via steps) within the grounds for guest's use, perfect for relaxing with a drink and dining alfresco, whilst taking in the views of Stepple Knoll, after an exciting day exploring wonderful Shropshire.
There is a community owned pub in Clunton, which is very welcoming and serves good food and drink. There are excellent walks and cycle paths from the doorstep of this Shropshire property, with Offa's Dyke, the Shropshire Way and Jack Mytton Way close by, making it an idyllic location for walkers, cyclists and birdwatchers.
The enchanting wildlife site of Clunton Coppice is just a short stroll, as is Bury Ditches, an impressive Iron Age earthwork fort from which uninterrupted views can be enjoyed. The owners enjoy walking and cycling the local area themselves and are very pleased to help guests with suggestions. Horse riding is available locally and mountain bike hire can be organised locally too. Bishop's Castle with its excellent real ale pubs and restaurants is close by. Church Stretton, the Long Mynd and Shropshire Hills are to hand (by car). Acton Scott Historical Farm and Stokesay Castle make good local days out, with the renowned medieval towns of Ludlow and Shrewsbury within easy reach (by car). At the end of the day return to King Grove and simply relax in the beautiful surroundings.

A piece of heaven.

We couldn't fault anything at this superb property. Everything had been thought of in terms of what we might need and the cottage was comfortable and cosy with good furniture and a very comfortable bed with nice pillows. The owners, who lived next door were very friendly and welcoming and made our stay a sheer joy. The peace was absolute, with birdsong the only sound and we had access to the owners lovely garden and the use of their washing line. For us, it was the perfect place to stay in what is a gorgeous, quiet corner of England that people don't seem to have found.

Relaxed and peaceful week in the countryside

The lovely hosts offered a warm welcome but were discreet and left us to relax in their amazing garden. This place was certainly off the beaten track so provided a haven of calm and quiet....only the sounds of nature. Having a private secluded seating area in a garden enclave was a real bonus and allowed us to chill with a glass of wine and watch the sun go down. Fabulous gem if a place

A very relaxing stay

We chose King Grove Barn, Clunton, off the beaten track, in the Shropshire Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty due to the photos of the garden online. The reality did not disappoint . The Areas for sitting for reflection, reading , observing and listening to the bird song were magical. The house was very clean, very comfortable and well equipped for a holiday stay. The description to access the house was accurate, including the need to take it carefully driving down the track. If an off the beaten track holiday is what is required, we would highly recommend. The advice to buy food to stock up was a good tip, a walk down to the pub is easy ( check opening times) and there are walks from the house with plenty of information and maps provided, Leena and Geoff were helpful, welcoming but not intrusive . We would recommend.
