Description

Welcome to our beautiful Mill House - Le Moulin de Beaumont in the Charente Maritime.
Situated just 20 minutes from the Atlantic Coast and its beautiful beaches of St Georges de Didonne and Royan and the historic town of Saintes. While Bordeaux, La Rochelle and Cognac are just an hour away.

Come and enjoy the charms of this detached 3 bedroom stone mill house with its own private, secluded, heated salt water pool. Situated on its own, with no owners on site, this holiday accommodation offers all its facilities for the sole use of its guests.
Close to the village of Cravans and just 3km from the town of Gemozac with its shops, supermarkets, tennis courts and Friday market, Le Moulin de Beaumont is the perfect place to spend your holiday.

Set in two acres of garden, Le Moulin de Beaumont is surrounded by open countryside, where farmers grow fruit and vegetables along with sunflowers and vines. Bordered by the Benigousse River, the garden has proved to be a wildlife haven; often being home to families of ducks, moorhens and coots. Kingfishers are regular visitors and, if you're up early enough, you may well see the deer who come to drink from the stream.

Accommodation Details
Le Moulin de Beaumont has been renovated to provide a light, airy place to stay.  With 3 bedrooms, a family bathroom, en suite shower room, open plan kitchen and sitting room, there is plenty of space to relax.

French doors lead to the patio with views of the pool, stream, garden; in which, many flowers, plants, herbs, fig and persimmon trees grow.  With the aim of helping you make the most of your holiday, pool and garden furniture (as well as garden games, such as boules and badminton) are all provided, plus of course, the all essential barbecue and tools.

The secluded walled and terraced, heated, salt water pool (10m x 5m) is a perfect sun trap. The extensive pool terrace with ambient lighting means that you can swim all night under the stars or just enjoy balmy evenings by the pool.  In order to comply with French safety recommendations, the pool is also fenced and gated.

The large open plan kitchen has most necessary facilities needed to make your stay a comfortable one.  You'll find all the usual kitchen equipment, including a microwave and dishwasher.  There is a cool bag and picnic plates, beakers, wine goblets/flutes and cutlery provided for your day trips out or for use by the pool. The dining table seats 8 comfortably and a highchair can be provided for the younger members of the family if required. A folder setting out local information, a guide to restaurants, towns to visit and 'things to do' in and around the area and how everything works at the moulin can be found on the dresser.  A separate utility room houses the washing machine, ironing board and iron.  The French doors from the kitchen open out onto the terrace with table, chairs and sun shade; perfect for eating out at any time of day, as you look out on to the garden and listen to the mill stream with the wildlife it attracts.

With two sitting rooms to relax in, Le Moulin de Beaumont provides plenty of space for all the family's needs. The main downstairs sitting room is a cosy but bright room with two large sofas, TV, DVD and wood burning stove that leads to a south west facing covered loggia, complete with outside sofa, two arm chairs and coffee table. A perfect space for relaxing when taking time out from a dip in the heated pool.

The feature staircase at the heart of the house leads to a further bright, sunny sitting area. To help you relax here, there's a sofa, beautiful French 'day bed', a second TV screen with a DVD player, a selection of DVDs, a small library of paperbacks, colouring books for the younger members of the family, board games, chess and jigsaw puzzles for your enjoyment. WiFi is available throughout the house.

The master bedroom with en suite shower room is upstairs and overlooks the extensive garden, pool area, stream, bridge and farmer's fields beyond.  It has plenty of space to accommodate a wardrobe, chest of drawers, bedside tables and full length mirror.

The second double bedroom is on the ground floor.  As well as the double bed, there is a wardrobe with plenty of hanging space, chest of drawers and bedside tables. This bedroom looks out over the front of the house, where the farmer grows peppers, tomatoes, aubergines etc.

The family bathroom, which is fully tiled and complete with corner bath, shower, washbasin and WC, can be found just across from the downstairs double bedroom.

The second upstairs bedroom is a twin bedded room with a wardrobe with lots of hanging space and shelves and a chest of drawers.

The extensive garden, as well as proving to be a wildlife haven, provides hours of fun 'pond-dipping' for crayfish, tadpoles and small fish.  All we ask is that anything caught is carefully returned to the stream or mill pond opposite the house.  Le Moulin de Beaumont's interesting garden is part of the charm of the property, being large enough to play ball games, endlessly run around or simply find a quiet, sheltered spot to tuck yourself away in with a good book and just your thoughts.

All bed linen is included in the cost of your holiday, as well as hand, bath and tea towels.  However, beach/pool towels are not included but can be provided at a small additional cost, which can be especially useful for guests who are travelling by plane.

Our peaceful mill house in the Charente Maritime is private, providing itself either as an excellent base to explore this beautiful part of south west France, take a trip inland, visit the coast or simply hideaway and relax.

2 wonderful weeks at the Moulin

By Tesni Jamieson on 05-Oct-2024

Have just come back from 2 wonderful weeks at the Moulin. We have been doing gites/villas in France for many years and it ticks all the boxes for us The villa is very clean and has everything you could want to make a holiday enjoyable. The location is good, walking distance to the nearest boulangerie for your morning croissants, 20 mins by car to the coast and the lovely surrounding villages. The pool is a perfect temperature. The information pack at the Moulin is the most comprehensive we have ever come across and found it very useful when Sian and Richard forwarded it to us before we arrived. Have already booked to go back in 2025. A real find.

What an absolutely wonderful find!

By Val Pendleton on 20-Jul-2024

What an absolutely wonderful find! We loved Le Moulin as soon as we arrived! It is a real holiday house with lots of extra touches that make it more homely. The rooms are spacious and comfortable and there is more than enough space for 6 people. We had some very hot weather and made full use of the covered patio area sitting with coffee & croissants, watching the Kingfishers on the bridge and Green Woodpeckers on the lawn. You must try the local Patisserie for a Pain au Raisin! The pool was also used extensively on the hot days. One evening whilst enjoying a local Apperitif (Pineau des Charantes) we saw deer at the bottom of the garden. Other days were spent visiting Talmont sur Gironde (with its beautiful Romanesque church) La Roche Courbon (you can get a guided tour) Saintes (for a tasty lunch at La Musardiere with its outdoor seated courtyard). Also took a trip out to Bordeaux via the train from Jonzac. It's a friendly city with a great vibe! And visited La Rochelle with its bustling harbour, seafood restaurants and interesting architecture. Sian and Richard have been extremely helpful with information & tips and we hope to return again next year!

A big thank you

By Roy & Julie Craft on 28-Sep-2023

A big thank you to Sian and Richard for providing the perfect holiday home. The welcome basket and card were very much appreciated. We have just returned from our second holiday at Le Moulin with the third one already booked for next year. The house, garden and pool area are wonderful and you don’t really need to venture far if you want a perfect relaxing holiday. The house is ideally located, very quiet but close enough to the coast. We visited Futuroscope, the zoo at La Palmyre, the coastal walk at St Palais and the steam train from La Tremblades to Soujon. The rest of our 3-week stay was spent in and around the pool area and exploring the garden and mill stream. We are already counting down to our return visit.

2 wonderful family holidays at Le Moulin

By Procter Family on 07-Aug-2023

We have had 2 wonderful family holidays at Le Moulin. It is a beautiful clean house. The garden is fabulous and our boys love running around playing football and cricket. The pool has provided hours of fun. It is close to the beaches and there are some lovely cycling routes. Our boys are keen to return a third time!!

Our 2nd visit to the Moulin, was every bit as good as the first.

By Nigel & Claire on 24-May-2022

Our 2nd visit to the Moulin, was every bit as good as the first. As you turn off the main road, you know you are in for a real treat - the feeling of the outskirts of Cravans is precisely what you imagine when you think of 'rural France'. Fields of wheat, meadows of wild flowers and not a white line to be seen on the road! The Moulin is immaculately presented, with tiled floors covering the ground floor - perfect for when the mercury goes over 35 - which it did for us for four days running and it wasn't even June yet! The pool is wonderful, using salt instead of chlorine, which doesn't smell or sting your eyes. We spent hours in it! We tried the local restaurant (Le 143) in the village for the first time this year and had a delicious two-course lunch for just 14 Euros! We did travel to the coast once and had lunch in a seaside restaurant but, to be honest, with such a beautiful house and swimming pool at our disposal, we haven't really explored a great deal of the area. Have already booked next year!

Pleasant mill with plenty of space and quiet

By Beatrice on 04-Jan-2021

Pleasant mill with plenty of space and quiet. The cottage is very well-equipped, comfortable, decorated; you almost feel at home. A river crosses the garden, bringing tranquility... In winter, a familiar squirrel also enjoys the garden. The baby supplies were very helpful to us, along with the youthful conversations. Richard and Siân were accommodating hosts, and greatly facilitated our arrival. It took a few hours to master the stove in the living room, which was very efficient. A very satisfying winter stay, and thank you for the attention on arrival. The value for money during this period suited us perfectly too.
