Description
NEW TO SIMPLY OWNERS - Past reviews pending. Whether you are looking for a romantic escape in a glorious area of rural France, or for a family holiday with a wide range of activities on your doorstep, La Cour is a rare find: situated on a quiet lane, but just a 2-minute stroll to the restaurants/cafes of beautiful 11th century Carennac. La Cour offers comfortable accommodation for 4, with gated parking, a private, south-facing rear garden, swimming pool (exclusive use) and a delightful rustic garden-room for those long al-fresco lunches. Changeover day: Saturday.
Selected for an interiors feature in “French Property News” in 2015, La Cour is a typically French
maison de bourg, built over 60 years ago by a former Mayor of Carennac. He chose his site wisely;
on a sunny open slope overlooking the meadows & rooftops of his lovely bailiwick. La Cour has been
renovated by the current owners, and decorated/furnished in traditional style, to reflect its intrinsic French country charm.
About Carennac: Carennac is officially designated “Un des Plus Beaux Villages de France”, where
ancient houses snuggle round a fabled Clunisien abbey built on the banks of the Dordogne river. In
summer the narrow streets are festooned with colourful window-boxes, and every turn reveals
thrilling glimpses of courtyards, balconies and gardens. It never fails to captivate even the most
wordly of travellers.
Carennac boasts several charming restaurants/bars, a cafe, weekly farmers market, a post office,
small epicerie and 2 depots de pain for your freshly-baked morning croissants & baguettes.
La Cour sleeps four people. We welcome children over 7, or a little younger if they are capable swimmers. La Cour has two pretty bedrooms (one double/one twin), a sunny, double aspect salon, separate dining room, a modern kitchen fitted in traditional style but with all conveniences (dishwasher/food processor etc), a modern, stone-tiled shower-room with WC, and an additional WC with hand-basin. In the stone barn beneath the house, there is a washing machine, dryer, and a second (larger) fridge with freezer compartment. For our guests’ enjoyment,
La Cour offers wi-fi, English & French TV, bluetooth music system, books/DVDs & board games.
Outside: private parking in gated driveway; enclosed rear garden with salt-water pool; rustic garden
room with table/chairs; sun loungers with cushions/parasol. There is a raised terrace to the front of the property with open views across the valley (ideal for breakfasts or evening meals).
Local attractions: walking, bird-watching, canoe-hire (just below the village), two
water-parks (5 minutes by car). A picture-perfect 9 hole golf course, tennis & horse-riding are all within a 15 minute drive. This is the Dordogne valley of the 100 years war, where fairy-tale castles and fortified hill-top villages abound, with many beautiful and ancient sites to explore. For those who like star-gazing, Carennac is situated in one of the few “black triangles” of France where - on clear nights - the Milky Way forms a magical canopy above the village.
Location: Carennac is situated c. 35 minutes SE of Brive La Gaillarde (nearest airport Brive/Souillac).
