Description

Whether you are looking for a romantic escape in a glorious area of rural France, or for a family holiday with a wide range of activities on your doorstep, La Cour is a rare find: situated on a quiet lane, but just a 2-minute stroll to the restaurants/cafes of beautiful 11th century Carennac. La Cour offers comfortable accommodation for 4, with gated parking, a private, south-facing rear garden, swimming pool (exclusive use) and a delightful rustic garden-room for those long al-fresco lunches. Changeover day: Saturday.

Selected for an interiors feature in “French Property News” in 2015, La Cour is a typically French maison de bourg, built over 60 years ago by a former Mayor of Carennac. He chose his site wisely;
on a sunny open slope overlooking the meadows & rooftops of his lovely bailiwick. La Cour has been renovated by the current owners, and decorated/furnished in traditional style, to reflect its intrinsic French country charm.

About Carennac: Carennac is officially designated “Un des Plus Beaux Villages de France”, where ancient houses snuggle round a fabled Clunisien abbey built on the banks of the Dordogne river. In Summer the narrow streets are festooned with colourful window-boxes, and every turn reveals
thrilling glimpses of courtyards, balconies and gardens. It never fails to captivate even the most wordly of travellers.

Carennac boasts several charming restaurants/bars, a cafe, weekly farmers market, a post office, small epicerie and 2 depots de pain for your freshly-baked morning croissants & baguettes.

La Cour sleeps four people. We welcome children over 7, or a little younger if they are capable swimmers. La Cour has two pretty bedrooms (one double/one twin), a sunny, double aspect salon, separate dining room, a modern kitchen fitted in traditional style but with all conveniences (dishwasher/food processor etc), a modern, stone-tiled shower-room with WC, and an additional WC with hand-basin. In the stone barn beneath the house, there is a washing machine, dryer, and a second (larger) fridge with freezer compartment.

For our guests’ enjoyment: La Cour offers wi-fi, English & French TV, bluetooth music system, books/DVDs & board games.

Outside: private parking in gated driveway; enclosed rear garden with salt-water pool; rustic garden room with table/chairs; sun loungers with cushions/parasol. There is a raised terrace to the front of the property with open views across the valley (ideal for breakfasts or evening meals).

Local attractions: walking, bird-watching, canoe-hire (just below the village), two
water-parks (5 minutes by car). A picture-perfect 9 hole golf course, tennis & horse-riding are all within a 15 minute drive. This is the Dordogne valley of the 100 years war, where fairy-tale castles and fortified hill-top villages abound, with many beautiful and ancient sites to explore. For those who like star-gazing, Carennac is situated in one of the few “black triangles” of France where - on clear nights - the Milky Way forms a magical canopy above the village.

Location: Carennac is situated c. 35 minutes SE of Brive La Gaillarde (nearest airport Brive/Souillac).

Beautiful home in a stunning village

By Emma on 13-Jul-2024

We had a wonderful week at La Cour. It was easily the nicest family holiday we have had in years. La Cour itself is a beautiful house and the outside space and pool are amazing. Carennac itself is almost too beautiful to be real- I could never get over the prettiness of the village. It has a lovely little bakery/ coffee shop too (Chez Paul) that provided us with breakfast every day of our visit. There is also a wealth of lovely things to do within easy reach. Our extended party consisted of 4 adults and 3 children (one family in another house in the village) aged between 7 and 13. The boys had the time of their lives! We went to the monkey park and the bird sanctuary in the stunning Rocamadour, canoeing was on our doorstep, we went to 2 water parks which the children LOVED and we visited the local caves. Adults and children alike gave the holiday 10/10 and we were already planning our return before we got home. (Update- we did all return in August 2024 and had an equally magical time). Highly recommended.

A beautiful house in a lovely village

By Hilary and Mike on 19-Aug-2023

We have been coming to stay in this beautiful house in Carennac for the last 15 years. We love the peace and tranquility of the area and the house and location are absolutely perfect for a relaxing holiday. La Cour is a beautifully furnished and very comfortable house, it has such a lovely private garden and swimming pool which is great for cooling down on hot days. Carennac is one of the beaux villages of the area, it is a peaceful and extremely picturesque village with plenty of options to wander out for a drink or meal during the day or evening, and a great cafe to buy your local baguette. The surrounding countryside, villages and castles give plenty of options for great days out. We feel very lucky to have spent so much time at La Cour and really do love our visits which is why we keep coming back every year, we thoroughly recommend it.

Great family holiday

By Sophie on 22-Jul-2023

We stayed at La Cour in Carennac for 2 weeks with our children, aged 9 and 6. It was perfect for us – the pool and garden is spacious and private, a great place to play and relax. The outside seating area is lovely with the roof providing shade and shelter. Inside, the house is a real home from home – beautifully decorated, clean and with everything you might need including games, books and outside furniture. The beds were comfy and the location quiet. Great having the washing machine available to use downstairs. We also loved the location – Carennac really is beautiful and a short stroll to see the stunning village and river, with a handful of restaurants, shops and cafes and lovely to walk around which we did many times. Farmers markets come some days and art exhibitions. We got croissants and bread several mornings from the shop just a 3 minute walk away. There is plenty to do in the area – with kayak hire on the river and mini-golf on the edge of Carennac itself, as well as a great water park a very short drive away. Plenty of other places to visit within an hour’s drive. Kathy was quick to respond and resolve anything if needed with local help on hand close by to attend to the garden and pool. Would definitely recommend for a peaceful, family holiday in a lovely location.

Wonderful house in stunning village

By Henrietta on 23-Jul-2022

We have spent two lovely holidays at La Cour with our two children, and are now booked in again for a third. The house is simply lovely, beautifully designed, comfortable and well-equipped with a fabulous garden and pool. Carennac itself is stunning and well provided for with a couple of cafes and restaurants, plus the Dordogne river nearby for canoeing and swimming. We particularly enjoyed some of the walks straight from the house and also visiting nearby castles and market towns. We feel very fortunate to have found this special place.
