Description

Gillies overlooks the estuary at Burnham Overy Staithe and was built in 2002 to very high standards. This cleverly thought through, architecturally designed, modern house with a traditional flint pebble finish and sea view balcony has been awarded the Visit England Gold Award 4* category of excellence. Catering for up to 10 people, Gillies is ideal for family holidays, walkers, birdwatchers, golfers and sailors… or those who just want to relax and enjoy Norfolk sunsets in superb comfort with a glass in hand.

Three en-suite double bedrooms upstairs, two twin-bedded rooms downstairs with shower room and WC. Spacious sitting room with stunning 180-degree vistas across the estuary. Large kitchen with access to garden for excellent catering and dining. Utility room with washer and drying machines. Heated dog room. Linen, towels etc provided. Wi-Fi with modern facilities and appliances.

Burnham Overy Staithe is the perfect location to experience North Norfolk’s Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Surrounded by marsh and foreshore the village boasts excellent walks and boat trips to Scolt Head Island. In the summer miles of sand offer halcyon days of traditional bucket and spade fun. When the daily tide comes in the estuary transforms into a playground for water sport enthusiasts (boats, kayaks and paddle boards can be hired from the Boat House). Out of season visitors are welcomed by wilderness, wildlife and wintering populations of Pink Footed Geese 30,000 strong. The Hero, a first-rate gastro pub on the coast road, is a short stroll up East Harbour Way. Within a 20-minute drive: Burnham Market (excellent shops, restaurants and local seafood produce), Holkham Hall (arguably East Anglia’s greatest stately home), Wells-Next-The-Sea, Brancaster and Titchwell bird reserve.

Gillies is a family holiday home let merely to recover some costs. The owners have been visiting Overy for over four generations. Well behaved dogs are welcome. Change over day is normally a Friday. Out of main season short stay and long week end visits (minimum 3 nights) are available. Quoted prices are not negotiable.

Family Weekend Birthday Celebration

By Richard B on 19-May-2017

Our family (10 of us) had a lovely weekend stay celebrating my wife's special birthday. Gillies is a fabulous house with outstanding views over the tidal estuary and beyond. We found the accomodation very clean and everything we wanted was there. The bedrooms were very comfortable as were the sitting and dining rooms. We would not hesitate to visit again.
