LOCALLY
We are well situated to enjoy all the area has to offer. Broadstairs is a pretty town, which still retains its unspoilt charm, with its narrow streets, flint cottages, and interesting shops, all beautifully set off by a wide sandy bay and harbour, and cliff-top gardens.
Nearby Ramsgate Harbour is a source of never ending interest and there are lots of nice cafés at the harbourside.
There are many other sandy bays and coves in the nearby area, and a little further afield, quite different coastal areas, with chalk and flint predominating. Don't miss magical Sandwich Bay and fascinating Dungeness (travel from Hythe on the miniature railway for the best way to visit it). Whitstable and Faversham are well worth a visit, and so are Dover, Deal and Walmer with their historic castles.
Inland, Kent is a beautiful county, with orchards, woodlands and rolling scenery. And there are some very attractive villages, in most of which you will be able to find a cosy pub for lunch.
Canterbury is about half an hour's drive away. It is a wonderful city, with breathtaking buildings, not least the cathedral, and lovely shops. And if you fancy a day across the Channel, there are plenty of ferries from nearby Dover to France and Belgium.
