Bristol was virtually destroyed in the second world war but has rebuilt to become a very vibrant and diverse city. Imposing Victorian townhouses rub shoulders with beautiful Georgian terraces. It is the second largest city in the south of England. Its two biggest icons are graffiti artist Banksy and Isambard Kingdom Brunel. This sums up this contemporary city well – creative, cultural, vibrant with a rich maritime heritage. Bristols city centre is pedestrianised with an open plan area around the harbour and Hippodrome where there are many famous pubs and bars. It has theatre and art in abundance with exciting productions from its adult and young companies.
