Description

If you're looking for a comfortable, peaceful place to relax and unwind in the country, Bluebell Cottage is perfect for you. It's a pet-free, self-contained two bedroom cottage within a converted traditional Cornish stone barn, dating back 300 years. The accommodation is all on ground floor level with ample space to unload your car and park right outside the door.

Bluebell Cottage is just off the A38, so it's accessible and easy to get here, but you'll be hidden away in the lush Glynn Valley surrounded by tranquillity and away from the hustle and bustle. You'll have exclusive guest access to 17 acres of woodland, meadows, a one and a half acre lake and almost half a mile of the beautiful River Fowey, where fishing for trout and salmon is included for our guests.

As you enter through the front door of the cottage, you'll find a pretty blue sitting room off to the left with two comfy sofas, TV, Freeview and a DVD player. There's a table and chairs enough for four to enjoy dinner together, or perhaps a hearty breakfast before heading out for the day to explore this beautiful area of Cornwall.

Bluebell Cottage has two bedrooms, both with high-quality coordinating bedding. There's a light, airy master bedroom with a double bed, bedside drawers, a wardrobe and dressing table. Next door is a twin room with a dressing table and hanging rail, so plenty of space to spread out if you're coming as a couple. There are hairdryers in both rooms. The galley kitchen is well-equipped with plenty of crockery, cutlery and utensils for a self-catering stay. We will provide you with a washing-up starter pack, tea towel and oven gloves; although who wants to cook on holiday? Everything you'd expect to find in the kitchen is there - electric oven and hob, fridge with ice-box, microwave, toaster, kettle, cafetiere - and perhaps some things extra, including a cream tea on arrival. There's additional freezer space in the Information Room and also Superfast BT broadband/wifi across the site.

Bluebell Cottage has a small shower room with an electric shower, WC and vanity unit and shower room towels and a bath mat are included. There's a great space just inside the front door for hanging coats - or sunhats and beach towels - and dumping bags and shoes. Just outside the door, you'll find your own picnic table, parasol and BBQ and the south-facing spot is quite a sun-trap in summer so it's a great place for a morning coffee, or a sun-downer.

Some of our guests don't leave Rivermead during their stay. There are walks around the lake, bird-spotting in the hide and picnic spots in the woods where you can settle down with a good book and maybe enjoy a glass of wine. You can find your inner-child on the rope swings, have a game of boules on the court or sit by the river and fish for salmon or trout. You might like to forage for firewood and have a camp fire at the fire pit and a bit of a sing-song!

If you are exploring further afield, you'll have the perfect base. Rivermead Cottages are about half-way between Bodmin and Liskeard. Bodmin Moor is 5 minutes away by car, and Looe, Charlestown, Fowey and Lostwithiel can be reached in less than 20 minutes. There's a host of attractions within easy reach such as the NT gardens at Lanhydrock, the Eden Project, Golitha Falls and Lantic Bay. You'll find a wealth of information leaflets and suggested walks in our Information Room.

A little gem

By maggiemac58 on 28-Oct-2012

My husband & I found this gem via an internet search and what a find it is: There are 5 properties available - we chose Bluebell which is a comfortable apartment which can sleep 4. It is beautifully decorated and furnished and very cosy. Rivermead Farm is set in about 17 acres of lush Cornish countryside and has its own lake and fishing along the River Fowey; we saw the trout leaping in the lake but didn't manage to catch anything!! There are rods available for hire if you don't have your own and my husband was able to get tuition from a local ghillie. For the more energetic there is a fitness trail around the grounds with workstations for sit ups, 'step' and 'pull ups'; there is also a specially built boules 'court'. We were pleased to find that other attractions are easily accessible...e.g. The Eden Project and Marjorie (the owner) runs craft workshops covering such activities as jewellry making and card making! Marjorie and Kevin provided a warm welcome and were helpful without being intrusive and we will certainly be going back andadvising our friends to visit.

A warm and friendly Christmas treat

By paganstar on 03-Jan-2013

We arrived at Rivermead Farm on Boxing Day afternoon, after a long and tiring journey from West Sussex; to find a warm welcome from Marjorie and Kevin, plus a very generous welcome pack which included a delicious cream tea (wish I could make scones like that!). The Bluebell apartment was very comfortably and tastefully furnished, and we were delighted to find a beautiful twinkling Christmas tree had been set up for us, which provided a special festive atmosphere. The apartment was spotless, and the range and quality of the equipment provided was the best we have found in holiday accomodation. The setting is lovely, though due to the weather we didn't get to explore it as much as we had hoped. Bluebell provided a cosy base to return to after days out exploring the area, which is convenient for many destinations. Marjorie and Kevin were on hand to help with any queries or recommendations, but never intrusive .The five days went all too quickly, and we will hope to return soon- in the meantime recommending Rivermead to family and friends

Beautiful place, very well run and about as friendly as you can get!

What an excellent place. This is a real gem tucked away in a quiet valley in a beautiful part of Cornwall.
