Beautifully laid out, comfortable and really well equipped apartment - I loved the way the historic features of the building are incorporated into the design of the room - plus the use of a private outside seating/dining area increased the sense of space. The apartment is located close to Bideford town centre, South West Coast Path and Tarka Trail so plenty to do but it felt like a real treat to return to the stunning grounds of Moreton House each day. I took advantage of borrowing a bike during my stay, which is another thoughtful touch provided by the owners. I honestly couldn't fault anything!
The Bakehouse Suite is a smart and very well equipped apartment about 40 minutes walk from Abbotsham Cliffs and the South West Coastal Path. It has extensive and very attractive grounds. We were greeted on arrival by Harvey who gave us a brief tour of the accommodation. The owners had left us a welcome gift of cider, beer and a cream tea, plus a vase full of gorgeous roses, lilies and sunflowers, which was a lovely touch! It’s clear that a great deal of thought has gone into the decor and equipment, this is especially the case in the kitchen, which has all mod cons & a great selection of cooking utensils. The wet room is fab and the bed was very comfortable. I normally hate pillows on holiday, but these were great! We went as a couple, but Moreton House would also be a very good place to stay if several families or groups of friends wanted to stay somewhere together, as there are various different sized apartments. During the week we needed to ask a couple of technical questions and Helen’s response was quick and friendly every time. Moreton House is located up a long drive, so it’s beautifully quiet. However, as the driveway comes out onto a road with no pavements, walking anywhere locally is tricky and it’s only really possible to get anywhere by car,. We found one walk that leads to the cliffs via a country lane directly opposite the drive. Having said that, there’s plenty to see just a short drive away and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. One minor caveat was the outside seating area, which isn’t very private or attractive, as it is right next to the designated parking places, so we were sitting next to our parked car. I’m sure that can be remedied with some trellis and climbing plants to make a screen. It certainly didn’t spoil our stay. There’s still a huge amount of work to be done on the property, but if it’s all done with the same attention to detail and extra touches as the Bakehouse, I think Helen & Harvey will find plenty of takers!
We had the most wonderful time in Devon. The apartment was so well decorated and comfortable to stay in. It was great that we was able to bring our dog too. We had a lovely private outdoor area and enjoyed exploring the garden. The owners were lovely and had thought of everything, and were even sweet enough to provide our dog with a couple of blankets! The apartments are near plenty of wonderful beaches and places to eat. We look forward to staying here again.
What a treat to stay here....beautifully and sympathetically renovated apartments with great attention to detail and luxurious finishes. Also has great spaces to relax, meet up with friends, have afternoon tea etc. Helen and Harvey are the ultimate hosts and go out of their way to make you feel welcome. Couldn’t recommend it highly enough !!!
Harvey and Helen were very welcoming and relaxed hosts , we were greeted with a cup of tea and shown round the house which is progressing fabulously ( think escape to the chateau but English ) . We arrived with our slightly batty Weimaraner who immediately took off like a race horse around the extensive grounds , making me feel guilty that he didn’t have this at home !! We then decanted to our suite which was fabulous , top notch finish and immaculate . They were in the process of finishing another suite and informed us that they were planning on introducing residential cookery courses , hence the extensive kitchens in the suites . They also told us they were planning to host weddings and corporate events , which the house would be fabulous for . Thoroughly enjoyable and comfortable stay would highly recommend .
We were very pleased with the authentic and refreshing renovation to Moreton House accommodation. First rate facilities with an excellent finish. The individual apartments are well spaced when quiet contemplation is required, but close enough to enjoy a large gathering of friends which brings the house back to life.
