Description

Maison sur la Colline is a charming and sympathetically converted barn, located in a stunning vine growing village in sunny South West France. The spacious house runs over three floors. The ground floor has an open plan, comfortable living/dining area with a well equipped kitchen, UK television and wi-fi. Upstairs there are two good sized, well -furnished double bedrooms with en-suite shower rooms and toilets. Downstairs is used as a games room with a full size pool table, with a third bathroom with a bath. This property is ideal for couples sharing or families. Outside there are spectacular views of the local area from the private pool and the terrace provides an ideal place for alfresco dining. There is also a large, secure driveway.

La Digne d’Aval is typical of a sleepy circulade village of the region, where the pace of life is very slow, but you may find yourself here when there is a local fete and then there will be dancing in the streets literally.

The nearest town of Limoux, just 7 kms away, sits on the river Aude and centres around a large town square which is bordered by bars, cafes & restaurants and hosts the town’s lively market every Friday. Limoux is renowned for its sparkling wine “Blanquette de Limoux”, said to pre-date champagne. It has to be tasted and where better than at the summer night market, held every week in July and August. Market day is every Friday in Limoux and Monday in the medieval and historic square of Mirepoix just 20 mins away.

The house is located within easy reach of the town of Carcassonne, with its famous medieval castle, known as La Cite. If you would prefer to spend a lazy day on a golden sandy Mediterranean beach, then Narbonne Plage, Leucate Plage and many others are about 1.5 hours drive away. The spring water swimming pools at Alet les Bains, the beaches of the numerous swimming lakes, kayaking on the Aude, cycle hire and the Abbey at St.Hilaire, are all a short distance from the house. If you want to go further afield, then Barcelona is only 3 hours away and there are plenty of beautiful drives into the Pyrenees, including the pretty towns of Quillan and Illes sur Tet. If hiking or cycling is your love, then you will find opportunities for these activities in abundance. There are plenty of wine tasting opportunities for wine lovers too. This area has something for everyone.

The owner of this property will only usually accept Saturday to Saturday bookings during high season, but please contact us if you wish to vary the check in/check out days. Once you have contacted us, the dates will be held whilst we answer your questions and go through the booking procedure, so that you cannot lose out. It is also advertised on other sites, so we would ask that you contact us to confirm availability.
A refundable loss and breakage deposit of £250 (300 euros) is required. A booking deposit of 25% is also required at the time of booking. (Please see the terms of rental for cancellation policy). All utilities, bed linen, towels and pool towels and cleaning are included in the price.

Cots and highchairs are available on request and subject to availabiity, but guests would need to supply their own cot linen.

Getting there is cheap and quick either with EasyJet or BA from Gatwick to Toulouse or Stanstead to Carcassonne with RyanAir.com

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION;
A deposit of 25% of the total rental cost of the holiday, must accompany all bookings at the time of booking & it is recommended that all clients take out a cancellation policy. All payments are made direct to the homes owners/property managers. The balance of the holiday cost must be paid for 8 weeks prior to the arrival date, but if a booking is made within this 8 week period, full payment will be required. Occupation of the property normally commences after 16.00 hrs on the day of arrival. Vacation of the accommodation will be by 10.00 hrs on the day of departure. We have a non-smoking policy in all our properties.
Where there is a pool at the property, the owners & their representatives cannot be responsible in any way for misuse or accidents regarding the swimming pool. It is entirely the guests’ responsibility to supervise their children at all times. If there are any under 5’s staying at the property, there will be a security cover, pool alarm or security fence, whichever is appropriate for the property and in order to comply with French law, but this does not in any way replace the responsibility of parents/adults. The pool chemical balance will be maintained by a qualified pool technician (National Pool Plant Operators Certificate) who will visit weekly. For their own enjoyment, guests are asked to keep the pool free of leaves etc using the nets provided.

Lovely place

This is a lovely property. Beautifully furnished and well equipped. Marjorie and Dave are great hosts.

charming gite in SW France

By Peter M on 19-Oct-2017

The property is located in the old centre of the village with a car park close by. The property itself was well presented, clean, with a modern kitchen and adjacent lounge room. The upstairs bedrooms both have their own ensuite, which was very convenient. The village is in a picturesque setting, surrounded by fields and vineyards, and close to Limoux, a regional centre convenient for supermarkets and restaurants. Further afield are historic towns such as Mirapoix and Carassonne. Thank you for your review. Hope to see you again.

Spotlessly clean and exceptionally well equipped property in a great location.

By Douglas Campbell on 17-Oct-2017

We've visited this area for a number of years and so far this is the best accommodation we've stayed in. The property is spotless and is very well equipped. The photos don't do it justice, particularly the ones of the outside area. We've experimented with a few locations in the Aude/Ariege area and this is very central for getting easily and quickly to the best that the area has to offer. Plus a door to door journey time of 30minutes from Carcassonne airport is great. Communication with the agents before during and after the rental was perfect. Happy to recommend. Thank you very much Douglas. We are glad you enjoyed your stay. Marjorie & Dave, Vacances d'Aude

Cosy barn conversion with great views

By Sarah R on 25-Aug-2017

We spent 2 great weeks at the property with our teenage daughter. The barn is open plan downstairs but feels cosy still. Upstairs has two beautiful bedrooms with plenty of storage and both have their own ensuite. The private pool was great with beautiful views to admire whilst enjoying the sun. We visited many places including Carcassone, Mirepoix and Narbonne. Although the setting is rural it felt central when planning days out. Dave was very helpful and knowledgeable of the local area. We enjoyed our stay very much and would definitely return.

Perfect place for a holiday!

By Amy W. on 21-Aug-2017

Such a beautiful converted barn, with modern interior but in-keeping with the farmhouse feel. Immaculately clean & tidy, we could easily have stayed far longer than a week as the house has everything you need and with a refreshing pool to enjoy on the hot days! There's lots to do locally including sightseeing, local walks & excellent cycling both on road and/or mountain bikes. The local towns collection of restaurants & bars are easily accessible and very friendly to those not confident with the language! Eating breakfast with a view out across the vines was a particular highlight only seconded by the quiet & peaceful setting in which the house sits. I would whole heartedly recommend the property to others. There is something for everyone & every interest, such a beautiful place to enjoy a much sought after holiday!! Thank you so much for your lovely comments. We are glad that you enjoyed your stay!
