Abbott Moss sits majestically on the edge of its own lake in an area of outstanding natural beauty in the Eden Valley in Cumbria. Approaching this three bedroomed sandstone house via a gated, private lane bordered by dry stone walls, your first glimpse of Abbott Moss will set the scene for your holiday. Recently renovated, the transformation is phenomenal with an explosion of both colour and comfort. With its cool grey tones and fabric blinds, six large picture windows frame the lake and flood the house with light. The fascinating wildlife changes throughout the seasons. There are squashy sofas, comfortable armchairs and a dining table with views across the lake. Eclectic pictures, wallpapers, rugs and fabrics have been chosen with care – each complimenting the other.

Upstairs are 3 bedrooms – the Master has a superking bed. Indian kilims and clever lighting make this room calm, beautiful, and restful. The en-suite has a cast iron bath with waterfall shower, sink and loo. Bedroom two has single beds which zip and link to make a superking. Bedroom three – the Indian Room – has twin beds with embroidered throws, decorative headboards and an antique kilim. The family bathroom with twin sinks and walk in shower is shared between these two rooms.

This exceptional home is surrounded by large gardens – your only neighbours are a herd of curious sheep and the occasional pheasant. You will feel very peaceful here. Abbott Moss is the perfect hideaway but with the northern lakes on your doorstep, castles and market towns only a short drive away, you won’t need too venture far. Then it is back to Abbott Moss for its comfort, views and solitude. Feel free to wild swim, bring canoes or kayaks (just please sign our disclaimer).

We are happy to accept one small and very well behaved dog. Lazonby is a working Estate and there are pheasant shoots during the winter.

Our stay at Abbott Moss was simply amazing

By Chris Gosling on 27-Jul-2023

Our stay at Abbot Moss was simply amazing. We could literally find ourselves just sitting starting out of the windows watching nature. The house was impeccable in every way - everything you could ever want or wish for. The decor, so tasteful and well finished - just beautiful. The surroundings were quiet, peaceful and serene and the wildlife was right at your door step. We enjoyed every minute, rain or shine - could have stayed forever. The house keeper, Julia was so kind and left a beautiful home made cake and freshly laid eggs and was always there to help. As keen paddle boarders the lake was a safe place to paddle with our son which we very much enjoyed. The surrounding area is wonderful - amazing walks, cycle routes, lovely recommended pubs and of course Ullswater only 30 min away. We couldn’t have wished for a better holiday. Thank you.

Would not hesitate to come again.

A gorgeous property, secluded and peaceful. We really enjoyed our stay. Very attentive hosts. Sitting by the lake, watching the wildlife was a real joy. Highly recommended, would not hesitate to come again.

We loved staying at Abbott Moss, with it’s tranquil and serene settings. Perfect for a family reconnection and to switch off from it all. The property is stunning, spacious and each room is presented beautifully. Everything was extremely clean and kitchen and bathrooms are well stocked with essentials.
