Description

The logis is situated amongst the vineyards of the Grande Champagne region, famed for having the best Cognac vines in France. It is set in a beautiful rural location, within minutes of the capital of the Grande Champagne, Segonzac where there is a bakery, supermarket, tabac, pharmacy and post office. The house lies within 2 acres of enclosed grounds, which include an orchard, courtyard, pigeonnier, and 10 x 5m swimming pool. The logis has large light rooms and has recently been refurbished to a high standard.
Location: This 18th Century charentais logis, has large light rooms. It sits amongst the vineyards of the Grande Champagne region, famed for being the most impressive region of the Charente. The nearby town of Segonzac, just a 5 minute drive away has a supermarket, pharmacy, bakery etc. And the nearby village of Juillac le Coq, a 2 minute drive away has a bakery, post office and a petrol station. The 2 acre garden is completely enclosed by thick bordering fir trees and has open spaces for Badminton etc. The swimming pool and garden are south facing.

The Surrounding Area: The pretty town of Jarnac, birthplace and final resting place of Francois Mitterand lies against the backdrop of the River Charente. Just a 10 minute drive away it also provides enjoyment for fishing and boating enthusiasts. Jarnac is also home of the famous brandy house ‘Courvoisier’.
The lovely town of Cognac, home of the famous brandy houses ‘Camus’, ‘Hennessy’, ‘Martell’, ‘Otard’, and ‘Remy Martin’, is about a 15 minute drive away, where most of the distilleries offer free tastings and tours. With its pretty streets, markets and street cafes the beginning of September sees the 'Coup de Chauffe' festival, where the emotion teasers, smooth talkers, barkers and street knockers wander in the ‘eaux-de-vie’ city streets, and the beginning of August sees the streets filled with Blues, Soul Music and Jazz resonating from the jamming sessions between amateur and professional musicians.

Additional Attractions: The fantastic ‘Puy du Fou’ show retells local history in a spectacle of fireworks, fountains, lasers and stunt riding against the flaming background of a ruined fortress. There are shows every weekend from June to September, and is well worth the hour and a half drive.
Futuroscope is about an hour away, and shows cutting-edge modern film techniques, with a screen the size of a 7 story building and a dome shaped cinema which gives an illusion of solidity and an underfloor screen that makes you feel like you are airborne. It also has a giant 3D cinema.
The beautiful wild ‘cote savage’ is under an hour away where there is miles of long, golden unspoilt beaches.
Or visit the ‘Marais Poitevin’, known as the Venice of France.
The nearest golf course is in Cognac, which is about 15 minutes away.

Fantastic - even better than the pictures!

By Oliva White on 27-Jul-2024

We had the most wonderful relaxing stay! The house is beautiful. It’s been put together really nicely inside and the kitchen is particularly nice and well equipped. It was a pleasure to stay somewhere where the owners clearly care about the quality of the interior and the overall guest experience. Lovely pool and outside eating area - plenty of room for all guests. Large garden and table tennis. The area is rural and peaceful, with activities such as kayaking within a 20 min drive. Supermarkets similar. We were very sad to leave and wished we had another week! Thank you Ashley and Maxine.

Superbly Relaxing

By D Bodilly on 04-May-2024

We had a lovely holiday in this villa, it has loads of space and within its charm and period pieces it has very well functioning modern kitchen and bathroom facilities. The beds although looking antique are very comfortable and clean. The garden surrounds the property which makes it lovely and private, and still very quiet. The manual with the house works well and in two weeks we didn't need to ask any questions. There are some good restaurant recommendations although a few have changed names or opening hours, but the surrounding countryside and villages are fabulous and we discovered many good wines and places to eat, but you will need a car. The hosts were very responsive and friendly, we would recommend it and would go back in future years.

Child friendly villa

By Pien van der stoel on 15-Jul-2023

Hi, we have had a great time in the villa with 8 adults and 5 children. We especially enjoyed the outside areas and the renovated kitchen. The rooms were spacious, however some to the beds were a bit short for our group. Also some rooms were not so sound proof (baby wise). Other than that we had a great stay!

Wonderful Holiday

By Paul B on 18-Jun-2023

We had a fabulous holiday at Le Logis. It is a very large and interesting building with large rooms and plenty of space for all. We had a group of six adults and a young baby, but there would certainly be room for several more. The location is wonderful, in the middle of working vineyards, but still convenient for shops and restaurants which are approx 10-15 mins away by car. There is a great pool at the property and also a lovely outside dining area. We did visit a couple of cognac houses, which was very interesting and worth doing if you like cognac. There are probably plenty of other interesting things to do as well, but honestly it was so relaxing at the property, that mostly we were happy to laze by the pool and enjoy wonderful French food, wine and Pineau (which is a must!!)

Fabulous large and tranquil house in among the vineyards

By Paul W on 14-Aug-2019

We loved our stay in this magnificent house, along with the private (and warm) swimming pool and the well tended gardens. Inside, the long period, dining table was perfect for leisurely evening meals, and the open plan design into the living room ideal for lounging after a days outing. All of the bedrooms were equally spacious and sunlit so no-one felt that they had drawn a short straw. The property is located in a very quiet part of the countryside and therefore ideal for that get-away-from-it-all experience. However, Segonzac is a mere 10 minutes drive away - so food, wine, petrol etc shopping were very little effort. Royan, Saintes, Angouleme etc are approx 1 hour drives away plus there are many smaller villages and historical sites closer to-hand, for exploratory excursions. We did not meet the owner in person but their directions were excellent and they were very prompt at answering our "how does this work", "is there a ..." etc texts. All-in-all we had a very relaxing time and loved both the property and the region.
