Welcome to Casa Vera. Set in the beautiful unspoilt mountain countryside of the Algarve with stunning views down to Fuseta and Olhao on the coast.
Casa Vera is we are told 112 years old and a traditional rustic Algarve farm cottage which retains many original features. We purchased her in April 2017 and then our journey began bringing her back to life and making her comfortable and homely for our family and guests to enjoy.
Casa Vera is named for both our late grandmothers as they were both venerable older ladies too!
If you are looking for a relaxing tranquil retreat, away from the stresses of life, but still close enough for shopping, the beach and authentic Portuguese life, Casa Vera is for you. If you are the active type the mountains offer huge and very scenic opportunities to walk, run and cycle along the quiet roads and walking trails nearby.
Casa Vera is situated near to Santa Catarina Da Fonte Do Bispo, a small typically Portuguese village, with church, grocery shops, bars, restaurants, a bank and post office. We are 35 – 40 minutes drive from Faro Airport and 25 minutes to the nearest beach at Fuseta and golf course at Moncarapacho. There is a wide range of golf courses within 30 minutes to suit all players, including Monte Rei – currently considered to be the best golf course in Portugal and the 9th in Europe.
1 minute walk just up the hill from Casa Vera is our neighbours traditional Portuguese restaurant which has fabulous 180 degree views of the coast for those days when you don’t feel like cooking – We love Maria’s food – its all homemade and completely authentic!
Running the full width of the house there is a shady veranda which allows you a quiet place to sit and relax and to take in the stunning views down to the coast.
There are 2/3 bedrooms, the main bedroom has a king size bed (which can be split into twin beds if needed) and has views of the pool terrace and beyond to the vineyard and orange trees belonging to our neighbours Manuel and Maria.
Casa Vera has a new pool terrace/bbq area with quality dining table, chairs and sun loungers. The pool is above ground and is 6m by 4m. The main bedroom overlooks the pool terrace which is ideal for any younger members having an afternoon sleep, whilst parents are relaxing close by.
We have updated with fast and free Wifi and we also have Internet TV with 300 channels and around 800 films and box sets, music and radio.
Adjacent to the main bedroom is a dressing room which also has a single bed, which is ideal for the younger people who want to be near their parents. The other bedroom has two single beds (this room has mountain views down the valley to the coast)
The bathroom has a vaulted ceiling and includes shower, wash basin, toilet and for chillier weather a far infrared mirror / heater.
The lounge also shares wonderful views down the valley to the coast and has two recliner chairs, (ideal for a snooze) and a beautiful chaise longue, Internet TV, DVD player, DVDs, games basket and a log burner for the winter.
The Kitchen has dining table and chairs, fridge/freezer, electric hob, counter top oven and kitchen appliances. There is a further log burner in the kitchen. There is access from the kitchen onto the veranda.
The store room has a large fridge freezer, washing machine, tumble dryer, pool accessories, there are some additional seats and loungers and things to use at the beach. There are also a number of books – if you don’t finish one please take it home but please leave a replacement for future guests!
As well as the pool terrace Casa Vera has a lower terrace area and a shaded decking area, which also overlooks the stunning views of countryside and the coast of the Algarve.
A car will be essential but Casa Vera can be accessed easily and is just off tarmac roads.
We have a management company available to greet you on arrival and to assist you with anything you need – the management company are very knowledgeable with regards to the area and can help ensure you have a relaxing time. If you require an additional clean during your stay this can be arranged.
