Description

The property is a detached 18th Century converted two storey stone built barn providing a perfect 'home from home' in the depth of the Somerset countryside in the quiet village of Galhampton near the unspoilt market town of Castle Cary - a town ‘lost in time’ having thankfully been overlooked by the less desirable aspects of progress!

Galhampton is a quiet, rural and very friendly village - indeed one guest whilst out walking was asked if she wanted to bake some cakes for the village coffee morning! It is ideally situated for you to enjoy the local area whether you want shopping, attractions, walking, quiet village pub meals or a combination of them all. It is ideal for Glastonbury, Wells, Stourhead, Bruton, Sherbourne, Bath & West Showground, Wincanton racecourse, North Cadbury, the Newt and the Camelot countryside with good local walking.

There is an excellent and welcoming village pub with good food within close walking distance (3-4 mins). In all the Barn is a truly relaxing yet well located and rural place to spend your holiday.

The Barn is clean, comfortable and cosy. It has a large and well appointed kitchen diner, a large sitting room, two large en suite double bedrooms (one with twin beds) - the double room could accommodate a travel cot (available) if you have an infant. There is a garden with a gloriously sunny patio private to you with a gas BBQ and a cast iron wood fire so you can sit outside and enjoy the many balmy Somerset evenings. The large sunny top garden is only shared with the hosts and guests are free to use it, including a hammock.

There is the paddocks for bigger games like football or rounders (weather and horse permitting) etc. We provide on site parking for 1 car (2nd car subject to prior agreement). There is a welcome basket of local food. The two en suite bathrooms each contain a lavatory, shower and basin.

A recent guest commented that even the nice pictures on the web sites don't do the Barn justice, "it's far bigger and much nicer in real life".

We have free ranging chickens, a horse and other animals (Pigs & Lambs between Apr-Aug) that the children love to see. Unfortunately, although we love dogs and have just lost our dear docile black Labrador, we can we can no longer allow guest dogs or other pets.

There are Freeview TVs in the Kitchen, sitting room and master bedroom. You are welcome to use the full fibre Broadband that provides circa 50mb/s to the Barn.

Please see our website www.oldpostofficebarn.co.uk where you can see more details and read the dozens of fantastic reviews and feedback our guests have left - it is clear why we have lots of families or 'rendez-vous friends' returning. You can also see more details and pictures of the barn, details of the locals pubs and eateries, as well as the surrounding area's attractions and things to do and see.

If you want to order your food from an online Supermarket (e.g. Tesco or Morrisons) and have it delivered on the day of your arrival - we will even unpack it for you so its all there ready when you get here!!

You can also use Googlemap and postcode BA22 7AP to explore the village (see note 1 below).

NOTES:
1. If you look for the Barn on Google Maps for some reason it shows there is a YMCA at the address - this a Google Error, there is NOT.
2. Please note that for the comfort of all of our guests' we have a strict No Smoking Policy in the Barn and the property in general.
3. Charging of electric cars is not included and is subject to an additional charge.
4. All lavatory and sleeping facilities are on the first floor.
5. Please note that we are a small-holding and, whilst we love to let the children meet and feed the animals if we can, we are not an animal park or farm per se
6. We can provide for short breaks of between 3 & 6 nights if you prefer and subject to availability. Short Breaks are simply priced at £95/night (for the whole Barn) - the weekly rates for 7 nights or more are discounted as per the prices Table.
7. The Barn was previously successfully listed for 12 years with CottagesDirect that ceased trading on 31 Dec 21 - hence ther number off reviews is just growing - more reviews are available on AirBnB where Ruth is awarded 'SuperHost'.
8. We can supply a travel cot but, as most parents prefer to provide their own, we do not supply bedding.
9. By law we are required to advise guests that we have motion activated security cameras on the main house and the outbuildings around the property but please note that these do not cover any guest private areas.
10. The Barn is offered as a time limited self-catering holiday let.
11. Unfortunately as the Barn is a Holiday Let, and due to bad experiences in the past, we are unable to have guests who are travelling on a commercial basis undertaking activities that might bring work site debris, dust or any other substances into the barn that might cause damage to the carpets and/or furnishings. If in doubt the lead guest must agree with the owners as part of the booking process.
