Recommendations:
Fontenay le Comte Weekly Market
Year round weekly market every Saturday. A large selection of market stalls, lots to sample with indoor and outdoor sections. Set in a street with restaurants and bars.
Vouvant & Mervent
A must see - Vouvant set beside the river is very picturesque and well known for art exhibitions. Mervent for the lake fishing, walks and forest. A great day out.
Chantonnay
For shopping, restaurants and hypermarkets.
Lucon
For history, cathedral, shopping, restaurants and much more.
La Rochelle
About 50 mins drive - but a most do. One of our most favourite places in all of France.
La Faute sur Mer
There are plenty of beaches within a 1 hour drive. Our favourite is La Faute sur Mer. We think the town is just the right size - not too big not too small, restaurants, river estuary, casino, shops, bars and cafes. But best of all we like it for the beach! Fantastic, you can walk for as far as you can see, pristine sand, dunes and a gentle sloping beach into the sea.
