Charming characterful gite in a beautiful setting

By Malcolm and Steph on 17-Sep-2022

Very welcoming and helpful hosts and spacious, comfortable accommodation in this idyllic rural spot really made this a wonderful relaxing holiday - just what we needed after missing out on visits to France for the past few years. The ancient, converted mill building was a haven to return to after our days out exploring this part of the Charente and sampling local restaurants. We loved feeling immersed in the French countryside with the mill stream, the calm, meandering Argentor bordering the gardens and glimpses of kingfishers, red squirrels and other wildlife. We spent most days dipping into villages and towns and enjoying local walks, occasional shopping and lunches out - undemanding but all new to us and very pleasant. We recommend visits to Rochefoucauld, Cognac, Saintes plus of course lovely nearby Verteuil-en-Charente. Even at the end of September, some warmer days enabled us to sample the inviting pool which we had to ourselves and to have meals outdoors. There were boules, table tennis and badminton and BBQ too, so plenty to keep us occupied if we’d got around to it! All in all we wouldn’t hesitate to recommend the gite at Le Grand Moulin and its very generous hosts - super welcome basket of local treats - thank you, Rachael and Michael.

A week in September 10th-17th 2022

By Trina And Russ Waker on 10-Sep-2022

Arrived after long drive from Calais around 6pm to a warm welcome from Rachael and Micheal and Basil the dog. A well appointed Gite with every need catered for and if needed the hosts were available. A generous welcome pack to set us up for the week. With a bottle of Rose chilling!!Beautiful flowers in the rooms were a welcome touch. We took advantage of the swimming pool and the seclusion of gardens to relax. We had several days of very hot weather so plenty of books and wine were enjoyed. Visited Oradour-sur-Glane, Cognac and a costal visit to Fouras. Do not miss the local villages. A great place in France to spend time with family and friends. Thank you and hope to return soon keep up the good work.

Fantastic family holiday location

By Brian Greenwood on 13-Aug-2022

We stayed at Le Grand Moulin in August of 2022 and had a fantastic time. The location is peaceful and ideal for anyone wanting to get away from it all, while only being a 5 to 10 minute drive from local shops and restaurants. The gite had everything we needed to make it feel a home from home, with some lovely touches and a fantastic welcome pack left by our hosts Rachel and Micheal who were extremely helpful, friendly and welcoming. The pool area was a great place to spend sunny days relaxing and when we felt a little more energetic there was a large grassed area down by the river to play any number of games such as badminton, all provided by our hosts. The BBQ area was ideal, with plenty of space to eat outside and enjoy lazy summer evenings. We had a great 2 weeks at Le Grand Moulin, and would definitely recommend it and hope to return.
