Description

Rock Cottage stands completely alone in an acre of grounds overlooking the unspoilt Mawgan Creek of the Helford River in AONB. We have owned the property for 69 years and believe there is nowhere quite like it!

Away from crowds, the scenery is tranquil and ever-changing through the seasons; there are no other properties in sight, so you will have Rock Cottage all to yourself! The open garden borders the peaceful waters of the creek on two sides, is steep in some places but leads to a large jetty and the private foreshore where Peggy, our sturdy rowing dinghy is moored during the main holiday season. You may fish, kayak, paddle board go wild swimming as well as enjoy hours of fun crab fishing from the jetty.

The property is situated in an excellent location for exploring the Lizard Peninsula and within a short drive of 15 minutes you will reach some of the areas finest beaches for swimming or body boarding - we are spoilt for choice! Gunwalloe Church Cove, Dollar & Fishing Cove, Poldhu, Polurrian, Kynance Cove, Kennack Sands, Coverack and Cadgwith are all favourites. Fascinating wildlife to watch around coastal areas: see Dolphins, Seals, Humpback whales, many varieties of sea birds and the Cornish Choughs. Flambards Theme Park, Gweek Seal Sanctuary, St Michael's Mount, Geevor Tin Mine, Trebah Gardens, Eden Project, boat trips on the Helford River and to St Mawes, Penzance, Falmouth Maritime Museum, St Ives, Newquay and Lands End are a few ideas for outings from Rock Cottage, which is ideally placed for sightseeing.

The Cottage is beautifully appointed with high quality white goods and furnishings throughout, equipped and maintained to very high standards and has three bedrooms including the separate Garden room, and comfortably accommodates a maximum of four adults with two children.

Master bedroom -5' king size bed - 2 USB points, luggage rack, radio and hair dryer. Triple aspect views of river, garden and woodland.
Young persons bedroom - two single 2'6" wide beds with views of river, garden and woodland.
Garden room - two single 3' zip and link beds - made up as a twin room, luggage rack, radio, hair dryer. Fabulous views of the water and the garden.
Private parking for two vehicles.
Boat and lifejackets supplied.

Whatever the weather, the cottage is warm and inviting as all rooms have full central heating by radiators. The hallway leads to the beamed and fully carpeted lounge with its original cob walls, large inglenook fireplace housing an electric wood burner, window seats, high quality sofa and matching armchairs. For entertainment there is a grand selection of board games, puzzles, jig saws, many Cornish novels, books of local interest, maps, binoculars, a Smart TV, DVD player and music system with ipod dock and two USB points.

The kitchen/diner, with its amazing views, is fitted with an AEG steam oven, Panasonic microwave, Smeg ceramic hob, AEG washer/dryer, 60/40 fridge freezer and a Bosch dishwasher. Many guests choose to sit and watch the bird and river life with its ever-changing scenery from either the kitchen table or outside on the patio. Here, the morning sun is perfect for breakfast, coffee time, brunch and alfresco meals later in the day.

Newly renovated is the ground floor luxury bathroom complete with toilet, built-in wash hand basin, bath, overhead shower and underfloor electric heating.

Upstairs and along the landing is the Master bedroom and the adjacent young persons bedroom. Both rooms have polished wooden floors with long soft rugs, solid oak furniture and a fabulous unspoilt view of the creek and beyond.

A couple of paces from the front door is the spacious Garden Room, which comfortably sleeps two adults. Please note this room is unsuitable for young children. As well as an exceptional view, the new zip and link beds offer the option of two singles or a six foot bed when there are two adults sleeping in here. There is also a wall mounted 40" television all complimented with white New England style bedroom furniture: combination wardrobe with drawers, dressing table, mirror, chair, bedside cabinet and overhead reading lamps. Wake up to a wonderful view from this room which looks out on to the garden, woodland and the water.

Rates are fully inclusive of BT superfast fibre wifi, electricity, heating oil, Dorma, Sanderson and Egyptian cotton bed linen, bath sheets, bath towels, hand and tea towels, luxury toiletries, rowing dinghy (available from Easter to end of October), plus a selection of life jackets. For a baby we can supply a travel cot, highchair, changing mat and baby bath.

Dog: We will accept an obedient dog but only when there are no more than four persons staying in the cottage at any one time. The pet should be kept in the kitchen and hallway where the floors are washable please. For reasons of hygiene and consideration of other guests, the dog must be kept out of all the bedrooms, including the separate Garden Room, the carpeted lounge and kept off furniture. A dog gate is supplied. The charge for a pet is £7.50 per night.

Within a short walk from Rock Cottage is Mawgan Stores which is full to bursting with local produce. On your way, you will pass the 12c Church of St Mawgan in Meneage and The Ship Inn. Many of our guests dine at this very popular, well established pub with an excellent restaurant or simply stop by for a local ale and then amble back along the lane. In the opposite direction from Rock Cottage, if you cross the ancient stone bridge at Gear and proceed up the hill towards St Martin, you will reach the Gear Farm Pasty shop. The Cornish pasties are made on the premises and are great for a lunch time treat. Further on is The Prince of Wales, which serves pub fayre, and also the Gwella Dairy, where you may purchase their own brand of ice cream.

As well as the Ship Inn, locally there is the New Yard Restaurant in Mawgan, The Black Swan at Gweek, the Halzephron at Gunwalloe and the Shipwrights Arms in Helford. At Porthleven there is Kota Kai, Amelies, the Mussel Shoal, Naughty but Ice, cafes and pubs too. Lizard Point has two great cafes with stunning views. The spectacular Kynance Cove has a cafe too.

You will find Rock Cottage appealing, with attention to detail in all rooms and your beds made up just for you.
