No.1/2 Dialknowe Holiday Cottage in Scotland's highest village may have a strange title for an address. It all becomes clear when you spot the second staircase and realise that once upon a time, this was in fact two cottages. We joined them together to make the ideal space for families, couples, friends and even work colleagues to enjoy cosy and comfortable surroundings here in the highest village in Scotland.
This charming and attractive cottage is a little bigger than it looks and has a few touches of quirkiness that can’t help but make you smile. A living room at the front provides the ideal place to unwind after a day of whatever, and the kitchen has everything you would need to enjoy your stay when preparing meals and snacks. There are three bedrooms spread over the cottage including a king size room on the ground floor, a twin room, then along in what would have been the old number one Dialknowe, a double room up the second staircase. The bathroom with a modern suite and over bath shower completes the property. Not far from the cottage in the village is the local pub where you’re sure to be welcomed. Admittedly Wanlockhead isn’t the hotspot for nightlife, that’s the whole appeal.
There are a few larger towns and villages nearby however that are reachable within a few minutes by taxi or designated driver. Just 8 miles from the junction of Abington Services on the M74 Motorway, the location of Wanlockhead is surprisingly more central than you would think. Try staying a few more days and taking day trips to Edinburgh, Glasgow, Stirling, Loch Lomond or over to the beach at Ayr in the west. All are reachable within 60-90 minutes.
