Description

Butterdon is one of 3 cottages at Clifford Barton, a 50 acre nature reserve including a picturesque private lake. Sit by the lake on Bridesmere Bridge seating platform and enjoy the peace and tranquility, watch wildlife or practice some meditation or yoga. Other communal activities include the games barn, where you can battle it out at table tennis, table football or pool, the bike pool -we have a range of adult and kids bikes for you to explore the wonderful Dartmoor landscape, including a Burley trailer to transport any pre-cyclists along the river side track to the pub for lunch. The newly installed wood fired off gird hot tub that can be booked out for the evening, watch the sun set down the Teign Valley and enjoy the wonderful dark stars and the spectacular stellar display.

Butterdon and its mirror image twin sister Mardon were converted from stone barns, and comprehensively renovated in recent years. They each provide stylish self catering accommodation for up to 5 people. Great care has been taken to provide all the mod cons needed for a perfect holiday, whilst retaining the historical features and unique feel of the original barn. Our guests regularly tell us that they love the attention to detail, with all soft furnishings being hand made, soft ambient lighting and a glowing woodburning stove, creating a mood in which you can truly relax.

The woodburning stove in Butterdon’s living area gives it a very cosy feel, although the cottage has a great central heating system so is always toasty whether the woodburner is lit or not (all firewood is included). There is a comfy 2 seater and 3 seater sofa, a TV and DVD player with a range of DVDs. Alternatively you could gather the group around the table to play one of the board games or jigsaws, or connect your music to the bluetooth speaker and watch the diversity of bird life which comes to the feeder at the window from the comfort of the sofa. A supply of top up bird food is kept in the kitchen.

Butterdon sleeps five guests in two individually styled bedrooms. The double room has a super comfy pocket sprung mattress. The triple room has one double bed and one single bed, again both with pocket sprung mattresses. The triple bedroom is open to the eaves and has a mezzanine level play area with toys and books that younger guests really enjoy (there is a stair gate at the bottom). Both bedrooms have bespoke hand made furnishings with immaculate crisp white linen, soft lighting, everything you need for a restful nights sleep after a long walk on the moor.

Cook up a feast in the well equipped kitchen whilst chatting to friends, it’s a great sociable space. Then gather the whole group together around the large table for meals – games – or just to enjoy the views!

For those balmy evenings when you fancy dining alfresco there in a BBQ/fire pit on the patio area with large table and chairs. Watch the sun go down in comfy recliners, the fire pit for warmth if the night becomes a bit chilly and wait for sky to light up with twinkling stars

Butterdon has a pretty garden, a great space to sit in one of the comfy loungers with a cup of tea or glass of wine and grab some time out. It is fenced so small children and four legged friends can be contained. There is very little light pollution in the Teign Valley and so it is the perfect location to marvel at the starry sky.

There is a modern shower room on the ground floor and a great family bathroom with deep bath on the first floor. Each of the bathrooms has a centrally heated towel rail and oodles of hot water – perfect for unwinding after a day’s exploration. Other more invigorating bathing options are available, in the River Teign a short walk away.
