Description

A former fisherman’s cottage, Lifeboat Cottage dates back to the 1800s but has recently been tastefully renovated to provide a holiday home that blends contemporary style and modern amenities with traditional seaside charm.

Nestled in a quiet street in Walmer’s conservation area, it’s a stone’s throw from the beach and a short walk along the front to Deal’s town centre, with its quirky independent shops, markets and cafés. Even closer is the Strand, with an attractive green and bandstand, traditional bakery, pubs, convenience stores and a café where you can enjoy a superb full English with a view all the way to France. You can even buy freshly caught fish direct from the boatmen on the beach.

Deal itself is a charming, unspoilt Georgian seaside town with two Tudor castles, local museums and a striking modernist pier all worth a visit. Within a thirty minute drive are the cathedral city of Canterbury, Dover Castle, and the major shopping outlet at Ashford. For two legs or two wheels, there are plenty of country and coastal paths and trails to explore.

Golfers, too, are spoilt for choice, with three superb British Open courses nearby – Royal St. Georges, Royal Cinque Ports and Princes.

This particular stretch of Kentish coast offers you the Turner Contemporary, Dreamland and the extraordinary shell grotto in Margate, Dickensian Broadstairs, Ramsgate’s Royal Harbour, Whitstable and the picturesque Medieval streets of Sandwich. Enough for plenty of days out.

And of course, France is just 20 miles away by sea.

Wherever you get to, Lifeboat Cottage is the perfect spot to return to. Downstairs is a light and airy lounge complete with working fireplace, a spacious kitchen diner and bathroom. Upstairs are two double bedrooms, one with views and a wall-mounted TV. Outside, the delightful courtyard garden is the ideal spot to catch the last rays of sunshine, and there is handy side access for bikes and pushchairs. Sky TV (including Sky Sports) and Wi-fi are both included so you’ll never miss a match or a message.

Dogs are very welcome to Lifeboat Cottage (as they are in many pubs and cafés in Deal) but no smoking, please, for the comfort and enjoyment of our non-smoking guests.

This cottage owned by Mark and Sarah was wonderfully equipped, warmly welcoming [ Cake Amazing ] just thoroughly lovely . Everything you could possibly need plus extras milk, tea, coffee wash-up cloths etc.... Very comfortable and clean , close to the sea and brilliant walks . We had a marvelous week [22nd-29th Oct 2016] so lucky with brill weather. Our son and partner and 2 dogs joined us mid week and although we are a tall family ,we did not feel cramped . would really recommend a stay here we will be back. Rosie and Andy Clarke . Twickenham.

Perfect Cottage

By Gary B on 20-Oct-2016

Lifeboat Cottage is simply beautiful. It is perfectly located just one road back from the beach but with a sea view from the main bedroom. Parking is easy and the location is incredibly quiet despite there being pubs, restaurants and a range of shops very close by. The cottage is spacious and incredibly well equipped and we were particularly impressed by the fact that lots of essentials such as condiments, tea, coffee and milk and washing up liquid were provided. Additionally, Mark and Sarah were good enough to leave a gorgeous cream cake in the fridge for us. We only met Mark, and he gave us a good introduction to the cottage and advice on where to eat. He stayed in touch with us by text throughout and was a brilliant host. The local fish and chip shop is great, as is the nearby Indian take away, Saffron. We really enjoyed being able to step outside the door and either walk or cycle along the coast. We liked Walmer and Deal and also enjoyed visiting Sandwich and a cycle ride up to Broadstairs. Additionally, we spent a fantastic day at Walmer Castle which is well worth a visit. My only complaint is that we didn't stay long enough, but we hope to remedy this soon!

Mark met us as promised and showed us around the cottage even though we were a day late in arriving. I would definitely recommend this property, especially with dogs as there is a garden. It is just one street from the beach where you can let the dogs roam. Deal was incredibly dog friendly and it was a quick walk into the town center.
