The cottage is in a peaceful wooded glen at the foot of Luqnaquilla, Wicklow's highest mountain, which rises to over 3,000 feet behind the cottage. The area is a walkers paradise with countless opportunities to get away from it all in beautiful unspoilt mountain scenery. Waterfalls, mountain lakes and deep glaciated valleys all provide a wonderful backdrop for walkers of every ability and around the cottage lots of opportunities to see wild deer and Red Kites.
In the local area there is golf, hill walking, mountain climbing, fishing, sailing and blue flag beaches. The cosmopolitan and vibrant city of Dublin is an easy day trip for visits to breweries, museums and great shopping. The location is famous for its many pretty villages (including Avoca and its mill and the little village - 'Ballykissangel' of TV fame) complete with welcoming pubs and restaurants. The beautiful valley of Glendalough is 20 minutes away and the lovely blue flag beach at Brittas Bay is a little over half an hour down the valley. For kids, the maze and farm at nearby Greenan is highly rated, as is the fun park at Clara Lara.
REVIEWS
"High in the Wicklow Mountains, just the most picture-perfect example of a country home. It retains the 19th century cottage feel, but with all the comforts of a good home away from home."
The Irish Times
"A beautiful, traditional Irish cottage tucked away in a forested valley in the Wicklow Mountains, the 19th century Aughavannagh Cottage is lovingly restored with all mod cons. Located at the mid-way point of the Wicklow Way, it is an ideal base to explore nearby glens, old military roads, pilgrim trails and remote mountain routes - Glendalough and Brittas Bay beach are only half an hour away."
