Description

Horry Mill self-catering holiday cottage offers a taste of rural bliss – natural woodland, a babbling brook and walks in all directions. The Hodgson family have lived at Horry Mill for over sixty years, and since 1993 we have been offering a self catering holiday cottage.

The cottage sleeps four plus cot, and is extremely comfortable, with oil fired central heating, a Rayburn cooker, and a wonderful inglenook fireplace.

We are located in a wonderful wooded valley down a half mile private drive next to Hollocombe Water, three miles from Winkleigh, and four from Chulmleigh, well off the beaten track. There is a spacious south facing garden, with a summer house made from home grown oak, and a terrace and BBQ for you to enjoy.

We have over 65 acres of woodland, mainly mature Oak, also an impressive stand of 60yr old Douglas Fir planted by Simon’s father. We also have nest boxes for Owls and Pied Fly Catchers.

We welcome two dogs, but please note the garden is not secure, and ducks and chickens may pay you a visit. Dog towels are provided for those wet and muddy walks you may encounter. On the farm we have ducks, chickens and a small herd of Aberdeen Angus Cattle, supplying local people with our beef.

In Winkleigh we have an excellent general store, post office, butcher, two public houses, two tea shops and the local Winkleigh Cider Company. There is a local farm shop within two miles.

Wonderful stay at Horry Mill

By Elaine, West Midlands on 01-May-2023

We had wonderful stay at Horry Mill. We used to visit many years ago with our children and had great family holidays. We returned in May with our two dogs and had a fantastic time and beautiful weather. The garden is amazing with such beautiful flowers and all you can hear is the sound of the birds. The dogs loved it and remained safely in the garden with the freedom to explore. The cottage is steeped in history and has a beautiful open fire for the cooler evenings. There are walks straight from the door step and easy access to the coast and local villages. Sonia and Simon are great hosts.

Beautiful, authentic, comfy, cosy, an open fire AND a Rayburn – just heaven.

We stayed there 3 months ago , but Horry Mill still shines brightly in my memory. This is an enchanted place. It felt like going on holiday to my childhood. If you love the deep peace of woods, steep valleys of flowers and birdsong, cattle grazing in small fields, ancient oak trees, then it''s for you. You can walk everywhere: you won''t need the car. The walk to Winkleigh (pubs, real post office, shop, butcher, cafes, church) is lovely and quiet, except for short stretch of busy road. Best of all is the cottage itself: beautiful, authentic, comfy, cosy, an open fire AND a Rayburn – just heaven.

What a lovely place!
