Description

In a picturesque village close to the Devon Link road and within a mile or walking distance of the main town of Barnstaple, is Tawstock View Cottage.
Tucked away in the heart of the old village is this lovely 4 bedroomed 18th century cottage part of an old Devon Longhouse known also as 3 Village Cottages. It has been a much loved home to the owner for over 25 years and is ideally situated for families and groups of friends to enjoy a relaxed time together either in the gardens and covered bar b cue during the summer months or inside around the open fireplace and cosy rooms in winter.
The Chichester Arms pub is a 3 min walk, door to door, providing a great atmosphere and service to all and is dog friendly.
From the door of the cottage there are walks available either up to Codden Hill where you can see for miles on a 360 degree span or a walk down to the River Taw accessed by a footpath next to the old church. Also you are able to cycle out along the road or preferably with children, the footpath, to access the Tarka Trail via Rock Park to the main Railway Station where the Tarka Trail starts. It will take you some 17 miles in either direction heading out towards Bideford on one side of the Taw estuary or to Braunton on the other side. There is the availability of taking the train to Exeter Central which is a lovely journey as the train passes trough some glorious countryside unseen by road. The beaches of Instow are about a 7 mile drive along the Link Road well worth a few hours on a sunny day and plenty of good pubs, restaurants and John's cafe and deli are a must. Saunton Sands, Woolacombe and Putsborough are about 15 miles away driving through Braunton where the Burrows are also an interesting place to explore as they are a protected area of Biodiversity leading to the sea.

The cottage can sleep up to 8 people. 6 ADULTS comfortably with a mixture of 2 SMALL SINGLES which can become another DOUBLE and a SINGLE FOLDING BED suitable for another child at an additional cost of £50 per stay. A DOUBLE, and 2 SUPERKING beds which can also be X4 TWIN if required. There is also a TRAVEL COT and a HIGH CHAIR for the small people.

ADDITIONAL COSTS:
CLEANING FEE OF £100 PLUS LINEN FEE £50. PET FEE OF £25 PER PET MAX 2. SECURITY DEPOSIT OF £300. Extra bed at £50 per stay.
CHANGE OVERS are any day... ACCESS from 4pm DEPARTURE at 10 am

The cottage itself has parking on the forecourt for a standard family vehicle plus X 1 extra vehicle if parked carefully. Or another vehicle can be parked on the main road just a few steps away, parking in the village street is always at a premium.
Inside the front door you step into a porch where you leave your shoes, wellies and clean your pet if you have one. The inner door leads directly into the sitting room. Here are x2 large comfortable sofas a Swedish style chair and stool and a large footstool. The stove will have logs for early Spring, Autumn and Winter and can also burn Coalite too. From there is a small hallway leading to the downstairs shower room and then stairs up to Bedroom 1, SUPERKING/TWIN , Bedroom 2, SMALL SINGLES/DOUBLE, Bedroom 3 DOUBLE. Across from this is the family bathroom.
Back across the kitchen with door to the garden is the dining room and staircase 2 leading up to Bedroom 4 which is a SUPERKING/TWIN which can accommodate the folding bed.
Outside at the rear of the cottage you have a dining area with tables and chairs next to the covered Bar B Q with open fire and Webber Bar BQ . Please only use the garden glasses and plates etc found inside the vintage cupboard in the dining room. Up the steps to the side of the cottage is the upper garden with Summer House and furniture and garden games within. There is another feature area behind the Summer House but not for small children to play on. From here you can access the front of the cottage via another set of steps.
We provide some games but suggest you bring you own entertainment equipment. Bring your own inside footwear, beach towels etc. There will be some basic items to start you off there are several supermarkets around Barnstaple. Tesco at the big roundabout you first came to head towards Barnstaple. Sainsburys head towards Bideford, 2nd roundabout after turning L back down the road at the roundabout. Asda, turn L at the roundabout back down the road then R off that roundabout then R towards the Station Asda on the R.

Lovely Cosy Cottage

By Marion Drewett on 29-May-2021

We had a lovely holiday at Tawstock View Cottage, it is very spacious inside and definitely fits 8 people. Kitchen was well equipped, very clean and crisp especially the bedrooms, parking is difficult if you have a large vehicle but the local pub was fine with us leaving our car in their car park as they are closed on Mondays and Tuesdays. There are two gardens, one patio/bbq area and around the side their is a lovely grassed and patio area to chill and read peacefully. It is a great base for holiday makers wishing to visit Barnstaple, Croyde, Puttsborough Beach, Westward Ho (great horse riding school there) Instow and many more all in easy reach by car we did all of these places. The local pub had friendly staff, food was huge but excellent but I would recommend booking in advance. The owner Jane was an absolute delight to speak to, she called before our holiday to make sure we had all the information we needed, we kept in contact during the holiday to say how nice the cottage was and if we had any questions she and her husband were very happy to help at any time. We Would definitely recommend this cottage.
