Description

The Vendée is on the west coast of France, to the south of Brittany. It has a beautiful coastline with attractive countryside inland. It is about 3 hours from St Malo, 4 to 5 hours from Cherbourg and Caen and 6 to 7 hours from Calais.

The house is located in the quiet hamlet of La Boucherie, within one mile of the small town of Beaulieu sous la Roche. The popular resorts of St Gilles Croix-de-Vie, St Jean-de-Monts and Les Sables-d'Olonnes are within easy reach.

The house has 3 bedrooms and will sleep 6 comfortably and could sleep 8.

The house is situated in La Boucherie, a small village of 9 houses surrounded by farmland. It is an old farmhouse with a rear garden of half an acre. There is a road at the front, but there is very little traffic as the only other building before the road ends is a barn.

There is ample parking on the quiet road in front.

The nearby town of Beaulieu sous La Roche has two restaurants, two boulangeries and a bar.

There are large supermarkets and a choice of restaurants in Aizenay, 4 miles away.

Upstairs
The upstairs consists of a large bedroom, two medium sized bedrooms and a bathroom. The bedrooms all have windows to the front of the house.

There are wooden floors, exposed beams and a wood panelled ceiling.

The main bedroom and second bedroom have double beds.
The third bedroom is ideal for children, containing bunk beds. A Z-bed can be provided if required.
The bathroom contains a shower, wash basin and toilet.

Downstairs
The downstairs consists of a large lounge, a dining room/kitchen and a bathroom. The lounge has a large feature fire place, ceramic tiled floor and wooden beams. A patio door opens out into the large rear garden. There are 2 futons which can be used as settees or beds.

The dining room has a large table that normally seats 6, but can be extended.
The kitchen adjoins the dining room and contains a dishwasher, microwave and electric cooker.
The downstairs bathroom contains a bath, wash basin, toilet and washing machine

Garden
The garden at the rear of the house is just under half an acre. There is a flat section by the house which can be used for games. It then slopes down to a small stream, which is the boundary. There is no access to the stream, so it is safe for children. Across the stream there are fields, which have recently been used to grow maize or for cattle to graze. There is also a small pond.

Everything you could need

Great property located in a very quiet Hamlet, just a few minutes from a small town. Don't think there was anything we were short of there. Lovely garden with a small pond that the local wildlife used. Was entertaining to watch the family of Jays in the evening from the outside table. A number of local circular walks locally. Within about half an hours drive there are plenty of interesting sites, nature, and towns to explore.

We're hoping to come back!

Our 2 weeks in La Boucherie flew by! The property was a home from home, just what we wanted. Plenty of space for the four of us, well equipped and in a very quiet location. We had a barbeque most evenings, read some books from the house and went for some local walks. St Gilles beach, which is fantastic (make sure you check the tide times though as it comes right in), is about 30 mins drive away. The local bakery is about a mile away and makes fantastic bread, croissants and pain au chocolate etc, back on the diet now. We tried wine from the region and thought it was very pleasant. We were probably spoilt with very good weather. The garden was more than big enough for our 4 year old daughter to play in and she loved having a slide to play with. Finding some of the places recommended for visiting was a bit of a challenge but added to the adventure, as was eating out in local restaurants (we're not very good French speakers) but everyone was patient with us and we managed, with a large amount of help from Google translate. The owner communicated very well and was patient with my foibles on the booking form and a breakage! (Sorry Phil)
