The property can sleep up to 9 people, but please be aware that the ninth bed is strictly for children. Also the dining table seats 8, so please bear this is mind when booking,
We welcome up to two small or medium-sized dogs, so long as their owners are properly trained and well-behaved, of course.
Everything You Need
Self-catering accommodation offers you the best of all worlds. If you're looking to get away from it all, even if you want to spend your entire break without leaving the house, Salvin House Alston has it all. From a fully equipped kitchen to comfy beds, Sky TV and two bathrooms, we've got it covered. All four bedrooms at Salvin House are cosy, welcoming and comfortable.
On Your Doorstep
The beautiful and unspoilt market town of Alston lies at the heart of the North Pennines AONB. The Pennine Way runs right past the front door and there are multiple country walks within a few yards. With five pubs, great shops, a steam railway, and a motor museum, you can take a break from the car for a few days.
A Base for Exploration
If you love to explore, Alston is perfectly situated at the junction of three roads, which means Northumberland National Park, the Lake District and Teesdale are all within 40 minutes drive. Explore Hexham and Penrith, walk Hadrian's Wall, take a dip at Haltwhistle Open Air Pool, visit the historic Killhope Lead Mining Museum, or take a picnic to the High Force waterfall.
Salvin House is a family home and holiday let in the heart of Alston, offering self-catering accommodation that is perfectly placed for local amenities, country walks and regional attractions.
The Georgian property is believed to date back to 1820 and it has recently been refurbished to a high standard, creating a cosy and characterful holiday cottage for your staycation or short break.
With four generous bedrooms, three doubles and a bunk room, there is room for eight to sleep in comfort. There are two bathrooms, one with a bath and shower over, and the other with a walk-in shower.
The living room has a wood burning stove, comfortable sofas and Sky TV.
Our self-catering cottage has a fully equipped kitchen with a range cooker, dishwasher and American-style fridge freezer. You can entertain or have informal meals in the dining room, with original fireplace and other features.
Finally, there is a utility room with washer, dryer and ironing facilities.
Entrance Hall
Running from the front to the back of the house, the Georgian entrance hall is the first room you enter at Salvin House. Towards the rear, you will find the grand staircase, with its large window overlooking the back garden. The downstairs WC and shower room leads off the hall.
Living Room
Our elegant living room includes built-in shelving either side of an inglenook fireplace with wood burning stove. Curl up on the Chesterfield sofa to enjoy the selection of books or watch Sky TV on the 50" UHD screen.
Dining Room
With its Pugin Red wall and fireplace, we wanted to make a bold statement in this room. We've also gone for a more modern furniture style to contrast with the Georgian features. The dining table can seat up to eight people and there's a comfy armchair in the corner for anyone who wants to relax in their own space.
Kitchen
Our fully equipped country kitchen includes a fully featured range cooker, American-style fridge freezer, built-in dishwasher and combination microwave oven. You'll find everything you need to for your glorious culinary creations and, if you don't want to be tied to the stove all day, there's even a slow cooker.
Master Bathroom
With a large double-ended bath that's big enough for two, our master bathroom - there's also a shower room and WC downstairs - is perfect for relaxing. We also have an invigorating shower over the bath and, thanks to our top of the range combi boiler, we guarantee you will never run out of hot water.
Blue Bedroom
Looking out over the back garden, the blue bedroom features a real stone wall, original Georgian fireplace, built in wardrobes and plenty of storage. The bed in this room is a Kingsize Double with Sealy pillow top mattress.
Gold Bedroom
The largest bedroom at Salvin House features an opulent deep yellow colour scheme on the original Georgian fireplace and the feature wall. There is plenty of storage, a Victorian dressing table and full-length mirror. The bed in this room is a Sealy Pocket Memory zip link, which can be made up as a Super King double or two full-size singles.
Heather Bedroom
The heather bedroom is the most traditional of our bedrooms, with a decorative scheme based on the colours of Alston Moor. With a traditional bed frame and antique furniture, it is designed to be calm and relaxing. The kingsize bed in this room has a Silentnight orthopedic mattress with IKEA latex mattress topper.
Green Bedroom
Small, but perfectly formed. The green bedroom is our smallest bedroom here at Salvin House. The full size single bunk beds both have comfortable pocket sprung mattresses, which means the room is suitable for kids of all ages, even really big ones.
